FL Studio automation problem

I keep running into a problem with FL Studio's automation and was wondering if someone here could help.

Say I have a synth on which the master volume is currently automated, and so an automation clip exists on the pattern editor, and an automation curve exists on the playlist that fades the volume in over time, then out and so on.

But the problem is I don't want to control the master volume on the synth, but on the mixer volume of that synth instead. So I delete the existing automation clip and out goes the curve from the playlist, which is all good. But then I reset the synth's master volume to default and play the song from any position, and it keeps reverting to a low setting somewhere close to the old initial automation value, even though I've deleted the automation clip!

Where might it be setting it from? What am I doing wrong? If I delete all the automation curve points I seem to be stuck with the first one which I can't delete, or is that normal?

Any help would be appreciated.

FL does this to me too and to be honest I have no idea why. Even when I delete the automation clip channel it still does it to me.

What I usually do is delete all traces of the old automation clip and then create a new one at whatever level I want the parameter to be at. Then I just go ahead and delete that too. No worries after that.

Thanks, will try that. Only I don't know how to create a new automation clip that controls the master volume of the synth. Will keep reading the help file.

EDIT: Got that, still, it seems like a backwards way. Solving the problem by creating another problem. Would still like to find out why it does that.

FL doesn't support third-party automation by just right clicking it. Move the parameter with your mouse a bit, open the drop down menu on the top left corner of the synth and go to "Last tweaked parameter", then selected "Create automation clip"

There's an option 'Init song with this position', when you right click the volume on the step editor aka "synths master volume", I suppose? At least on the mixers lever slider there is. Set it to the desired level, right click, 'Init song with this position'.

When you delete the automation clip, the volumes etc. will be the how they were in the absolute beginning of the now gone automation clip.

Aha! It's the same for setting a control such as the master volume of the synth to default and then clicking Tools->Last tweaked->Init song with this position I see, so that clears that up. Thanks.

Woww I had the same problem where I'd record an automatic clip using a midi controller's fader, starting all the way down and slowly bring it up, but then when i replay the clip, it starts at like 15% volume and not zero. I'm gonna try this out.

Yeah thats a glitch. After you take the automation clip out and mess with the volume it will sometimes still play as if the clip was still there. I'd recommend deleting the channel with the synth thats doing it and then re adding it. that has worked for me.

Deleting the channel is kind of a stupid move if you have multiple patterns made on it already. You're better off deleting the original automation clip and making a new one, even if you don't actually automate anything with the new one it'll reset the default value to whatever it was at when it was made.

Dunno

What I mean was deleting the specific instrument the automation clip is glitching on and then re-adding it, it worked for me

Well, yeah, I get what you're saying, I also don't get why you'd want to delete an entire channel. You'd lose any patterns you've written for it unless you copied and pasted them somewhere else, you'd have to reroute any effects you had to it and you'd have to find and reload whatever sample or VSTi you were using in the first place. Why not just make a new automation clip?

It's not a glitch. Go to browser -> Current project -> Patterns -> Iniatilized controls. All automation goes there. If you want to get rid of if 100%, delete it there.

Cheers for that. I fully understand it now, though I still don't like it.

Everybody has this problem. A reasonable and quick solution, in my opinion, is just right click a slider/knob and choose Init with this song position.

Whenever I want to automate the volume of something I load up a fruity balance controller, then automate its levels. Saves having to go back later to adjust it if I change the synths volume or the mixer tracks.

Hey, that's what I do too!
