OP Bar, anyone been yet? [edm bar?]
so they boast playing edm. I saw that hakim guelmi, nicola torriero, jeff fontaine and a few more were booked to play there.
saw a few pics and the clientele & decor looked douchy,
but the music seems oh so promising!
so yeah, has anyone been yet? it's in the old port btw.
it's all about pharaon day club bro... true story

Yes! A new spot in the old montreal.
I'll be playing there too in february.
At lease there's a other place to hear great music.
I'll give you a bias opinion since it was opened by friends of mine...and I'll play there on a regular basis!
It is a nice, intimate club with great staff. The crowd changes from one night to another...and I admit that it can be a little 'Old-Montreal-not-really-there-for-the-music' type (especially on Thursdays when there are 5 7). However, it is usually pretty good.
And as you mentioned, there are great djs playing there.
Come check it out; I'll play there on Saturday, January 29th.

les bouteilles et les chebizes sont toujours dispo chez LE PHARAON
Here's the flyer of my night! Pat De Varennes. Same guy who did my 2 mixes cover art! I love his work

Guys, let me know if you are planning on checking the club this Saturday, after Igloofest: I'll put you on the gueslist.
Christian: nice flyer!
Just arrived from the bar, nice place, intimate. Jeff Fontaine was playing tonite!
I suggest you to come and see by yourself.

Here's some pictures! It's looks better in person!
Stop talking and come see that brand new bar openned since 4 months!
Had a blast playing there last Saturday!
I'm happy to say that I am now a resident dj there!
Stay tuned for interesting bookings...

the place is nice but they need to update their DJ equipment. all they have is cdj 200s and an old ass vestax mixer. new equipment will make the sound in there much better for sure.

yes it's very nice!
b-ran, they know and will replace the equipment soon. Question of time.
You are definitely right Bran!
However, as Christian mentioned, they are aware of this issue and will replace the equipment within the next few weeks.

we live in an era where i bet even the cdjs are gathering dust
Jay you are like an old dusty skipping record repeating the same thing. ;-)
actually i like technology and the rare time i go near my decks i run serato.
traktor is the antichrist though...in the hands of a talented individual it is a tool of the gods leading to magical things for sure...but the reality is that especially in this city...that it has created a new generation of atrocious local djs who don't have the slightest concept on how to build or mix a set because they didn't learn any theory.
beat matching yourself does not make you a better dj, but going through the process of learning how to mix without looking at a waveform does. The practice leads to you being better at improvising, reading the music, and creating appropriate tension and release instead of always pressing autosync at the end of a break.
let me use Hakimm as an example here, because i remember when he was learning. The guy would spend weeks on end doing nothing but counting beats...he learned to mix on all platforms and because of this became a good dj. He didn't get that way overnight...which is what a lot of these other young guys think they can do.
Tghe software isn't the problem, bad djs are...and the software makes it easier for them to butcher dancefloors, better?

i know you get what i am trying to say martin. Don't tell me you haven't seen it with your own eyes in this town. A guy is playing 3 times a week, yet can't even grasp how to phrase the tracks or how to use an eq properly. Contrary to what many traktor djs believe...that really bad efx raping is not hiding any of it
every dj that can't use other mediums should have their laptop crap out during a gig to emphasize what i am trying to get at.
what will you do then, beatbox and say sorry folks, music over?
