Dirtbox Divas - Dominate 2.0

Dominate2point0 Played a little further. Still not sure. by Dirtbox Divas

Heya folks,
Rich and I have been working on a new offering, we thought we would give you a demo blast. Its still a WIP but we are pretty pleased with it so far. We would very much appreciate any feedback that you may have good or bad.
We acknowledge that it is still bass heavy but we hope that you will be able to see where this is going and give input the way you usually do.
Cheers
Nem

Relax, don't do it..............

Sounding great so far

edit - that's not a flippant back patting comment btw, you've already mentioned it's bass heavy, and the rest does sound great!

Posted by Nemesis44 on Jan-18-2011 12:41:

He he, I know what you mean about the bass. But it's actually me playing bass along with the track. Figured I would add a live sound in there.
I then rolled off the bottom end giving it that Frankie sound but it works for me.

Thanks for checking it out though.

Cheers
Nem

Tehlord - actualy that's a brilliant idea - 'Relax don't do it' over the intro would be great - has anyone done a remix of that Frankie track already?

This week you mean?

Posted by Nemesis44 on Jan-18-2011 14:13:

It has been done, but we could just make sure we make it stand out. It would work pretty well me thinks.

Ever - I mean a proper decent release, not a youtube remixfest.

Posted by tehlord on Jan-18-2011 14:20:

I don't remember anything being done for ages.

The old FGTH/Trevor Horn combo was the best sounding pop ever made imo.

There are a load of 12" remixes on spotify, you might get some more naked samples of there.

Posted by Nemesis44 on Jan-18-2011 15:50:

I actually checked out some of the remixes around and most of them are either too close to the original or so gash that its not even funny. I know I have heard remixes, but never heard one that makes me think, wow that has really done a lot to bring back this track to the modern age. That said, its already a giant in its own right so its by no means a Mickey Mouse task to do this but I am up for the challenge.

It actually lends itself pretty well though as it was almost a dance track right from the start anyway. Did a youtube search and most of what I found was shite. Mostly mash ups that said some sounded alright but there is no clear outstanding actual remix as I could find, that said, not saying it doesnt exist.

I recall the original 12" remixes are around Spotify?

They're great. The rest as you say are shite.

There was a 'guide to remixing' version of Rage Hard that was superb

I really like it guys!! a lot of work there!

let it flow..

Posted by Owsey on Jan-18-2011 18:47:

Around 1.00 is where the track starts for me. Sounding solid, as always. I'm not good at giving feedback to short clips, so I'll wait until you're both finished before I say more.

The only thing I can say, which hasn't been said, is that some of the rhythmic elements sound a little cluttered, to which you would reply, Pot Kettle Black and add, that at least you have a coherent, original rhythm to clutter.

Good call Ed - NEM and I work remotely from one another and sorta pile in ideas. There will come a point where we hopefuly iron out any clutter, leveling issues etc - also note I just slammed it tru a shitty free limiter for now.

We're both working on it right now actualy -watch out for those 80's vocals any time soon.

Posted by Richard Butler on Jan-18-2011 22:26:

MISE - long way to go but yeah tahnks for the thumbs up.

OWSEY - I agree short clips are pretty hard to give meaningful feedback on. We just sorta sometimes need a little hand hold on the journey, ahhhhhh

TEHLORD - that 'Relax' call was sublime mate. It was going to be a remix of 'Ding da da, don do do' by that 80's German guy who I thought was black when I were a lad.

Rich is of course referring to George Kranz, which I still don't think was a bad call in terms of remix potential, but probably for a later time.

RelaxonWax by Dirtbox Divas

Slightly later version of this track now. With a few vocal touches.

Kind of in a position at the moment where I have been working on Time stretching and I have two possible options for which to send to Meesta Butler to see what happens. Should probably send both.

I know it's intentional that the first snare is quieter than the one that follows but it drives me bonkers.

Other than that, wow guys, this track is fucking SICK. Very hypnotic. It's kind of weird that I like your guys' work so much because it's got a very wet sound to it and I (as you can hear in my tracks) generally prefer the drier start & stop kind of sound, but you pull it off soooooooo well.

I might be going insane but I year a daft punk-y "YEAAAHH' sound in the background and I'm going to just sit here and pretend that my track From Here On might have been an inspiration for that even though I know it wasn't.

YAY. Good work.

LATEST VERSION -

Quite a trancey roller bass comes in after a while

Relax - better leadpic, lead glych, level adjustments, guetta synth (little bit) etc by Dirtbox Divas

I really like this version! is dark but fresh at the same time, and got that catchy groove.

The work with the snare is superb.!

Cheers man - just upadated too - with a big rolling bass (argh) at about 1.47

Posted by EddieZilker on Jan-23-2011 20:08:

Oooooh, man. You guys have sold out, man.

Well, at least you sound successful.

Quite good, gents. I'm going to leave out any crit because if I have any, it would only relate to how I'd retard your clear progress.

Guys, can you tell us what you think of this idea so far?

Relax breal into drop idea. by Dirtbox Divas

Cool, Two Tribes meet Sander van Doorn

I think this is very catchy, see if you can find the accapella, or do some serious low cutting and try to double the synths by playing them yourselves as well. you might want to look for the 2tribes midi in order to get the melody and chords and break it down from there, then apply the "SVD Logic" 16c quantise and you're set
