Help out a Newbie

Hello

I have been listening to a few tracks that I have and I think that I could remix them. I just want to have a go at remixing without spending much money and decide whether I can make it or not. So I there any tutorials, books, websites that I should look at? And how is it cheapest to find out if I have the x-factor or not?
