Dubstep Appreciation Thread

Yeah, that's right, showing some love for sexy ass dubstep. Not the super wobbly stuff (think SPL & Triage - Valhalla) but real deep, smooth, dubstep. The kind of stuff you want to listen to when you're high. I didn't really care for dubstep until I heard it like this. From what I've seen on this board a lot of people really hate dubstep. Maybe you'll change your mind too

Would love to hear more dubstep like this, since right now I don't know much more than these songs

You're lucky man. Most people consider the DMZ guys the beginning of Dubstep. (The roots are obviously older)

This is getting increasingly ridiculous, yet interesting at the same time.

On one hand, there's literally one new thread each week where someone new finally realizes that dubstep is the shit and just has to proclaim his love for it to rest of us. This is just fucking silly. I almost feel bad for Woonyxoxo and such for posting endless string of youtube videos just to see their hard work cancelled the next week.

On the other hand, it's nice to see people gathered around something so relatively current. In times when it seems that every single person listens to different kind of music, dubstep (and all its substyles) really seems like the first genuine force in electronic music that could change that and unite people after a long time - it's fairly big and popular, yet still highly innovative and creative. It certainly marked the later part of the last decade and will surely mark the early years of this one as well.

Now if only people would stop fucking up every thread with goddamn youtube videos...

I would hardly say there is more quality dubstep coming out than the quality coming out of any other genre.

He didn't say that either. "Innovative and creative" are not synonyms for "good". There's an almighty amount of bad dubstep being made and played right now, but there's no doubt that the style is still mutating rapidly in every direction. One of the things that helps that is its huge popularity, because a whole bunch of people are being introduced to it from disparate musical backgrounds, thus fuelling the cross-pollination and evolution of the sound. Popularity works both ways, despite what insufferable purists will have you think.

Admittedly, Dubstep has gained a lot of attention recently, but hasn't the genre been around for a very long time? Hence, not really "innovative"?

And for the record, I'm not a fan, and I think its just the evolution of all the 2007 electro hipster fans who got bored and needed to move on to something else.
