Alesis M1 Active 320

These any good? I mean they are dirt cheap but all I've got is the akg240's at the moment and I would not mind some other reference, also I'm on a tiny budget.

if your looking for reference monitors these are not it.
but they are nice computer-speakers with lots of nice color on the sound.

Ok got ya.

What is the absolute budget-est active monitors around that have a flat sound...Ive had the behringer truth's before but even those are out of my price range for now...

Are my akg240's giving me a good flat reference?

Edit* damn the truths in the USA are Dirt cheap but the shipping on those heavy mutha farks would be through the roof

I just read a thread on a different forum where the general consensus was the akg240 are very very colored.... I've been using these for years thinking otherwise.

headphones are always colored imo. it would be easier if u said a budget but you could listen to JBL LSR23xx serie, Im hearing great things about them. try also a search around here, theres 100 monitor threads the last year alone.

just had a look..not a bad price but I'll have to save some pennies..then have a look at getting them

I use the M1 520 Active monitors. Work for me. Not seen 320's though.

I would love a response from ken lee or anyone else on these ones as well...the M1Active 520, that is....

Posted by Zak McKracken on Jan-29-2011 09:44:

i havent heard them myself. they are probably decent but i really dont know. id look for something else, something i know are flat. but thats just me.

Honestly dude,

Get used to your gear. I have fairly decent monitors but before that I had shitty HiFi speakers for years.

I find my mixes on the shockingly colours Sony MDR v700 translate very well to me Fostex PM1s.

This is because I am used to how both sound. If I were you, I'd go second hand if you're on a really tight budget.

Interestingly a friend of mine has both the Alesis 520 and the AK240's. Both sound nice to me, but I will say the 520 (and Alesis in general) hype bass.

i notice the alesis have a bass boost switch on the back...you would clearly want this off at all times right?

My opinion, as a user of these monitors, not good enough for you?

if it only has a boost option and not the oposite (lowering of bass, mid, treble) id say its a pretty unserious monitor and go for something different.

the JBL LSR2325 have both +-3dB on bass and treble making is possible to fit to the room a little more.

powered

of course they're powered/active, i would never recommend anything else.
use mastercard or visa, and pay it off over two months if your that broke.
