Hippodrome London: What's happening there a.t.m?

Last time I've been to the Hippodrome must have been in 1991. I was stunned by the power of the soundsytem, the lightshow and especially the prices...

I was 16 at the time and we were in London with school. Only me and a friend and a two other girls from my highschool got passed the bouncer

I had my first X there, and afterwards my first sex with one of the two chicks (yes, a memorable night it was!)

I can remember the DJ playing YMCA and tracks like Gonna make you sweat and Unbelievable

What ever happened to the club? Is it still trendy or a waste of time?
I know it's still there but I can't get really usefull info...

Anyone recently visited the club?

I have a strange feeling about the current status of the Hippodrome, so correct me if I think the place sucks nowadays...

Greetz

I wasn't planning to do so hehe, but I'm a curious bastard

Since it's been 11 years...

If I would come to England (get the Euro first cause the Pound is soooooooooo expensive! Btw: no flying! I hate planes, me would rather die on some ferry...) off course places with UK hardhouse will be interesting

For Hard House check out the Tidy Weekender thread + lineup. It's on over three days and has all sorts of hard house.

Ferries from Amsterdam straight to Newcastle (where I live ) with Scandinavian Seaways (www.scansea.com) are pretty cheap in autumn/winter. Last year a few of my mates went to Amsterdam for about 40 (~ 60 euros) return, iirc. They said the boat was basically a clubber's boat as well (although they aren't into trance so I can't vouch for that). The toon is quite a way from any other city though (except Sunderland *cough*), but is only about 90mins drive from Leeds which has Sundissential North, reputed to be a pretty messy UK Hard House venue

a hippodrome is a giant stadium where people go to watch a game of hungry hippos which is 20 times bigger than normal hungry hippos and the white balls are football sized and peopel have to jump and the giant fake plastic hippos handles to makes them eat the balls.

JP you were right about the Columbiahalle. When we first went in we thought it would be a shite night out, the music was all funky and slow and pretty quiet. I know they usually start things off slow, like progressive, but this was a joke.

Within about 2 hours though the place filled up and the sound system was banging! I like the layout of the club, I like simple layouts that keep the atmosphere together. It reminds me of a club in Newcastle called Promise, with a really simple layout and not that big, but it must be a combination of great acoustics and a great sound system cos it's always banging with a mad atmosphere.

Definitely my best night out ever!
