Give to the needy?!

Hi guys. I am currently doing my fieldwork at a homeless shelter for those who also have a disability (physical, mental). They have a dvd player and I was wondering if any of u can donate some old dvd's. If you are in NYC we can plan to meet. I would appreciate it. These guys dont have much to do while waiting for section8 housing and all receive social security. Thanks for ur help!

I know it is part of your fieldwork but you a re still such a sweet heart to be doing this.

I totally love what I am doing and I think I have the coolest fieldwork placement out of my entire class ;D

I have a ton of clothes? Is that something they need? In CT its so much easier to collect and give! I used to have quartly drive i personally through but now i dont even know where to start.

If you need clothes let me know how to get them to you- some of this stuff still has tags on it (ive finally come to the conclusion that i will NOT be a size 6 in the near future hahah)

edit: i need to learn to read entire posts not just skim them.

No i dont have DvDs haha but Im leaving my original comment to anyone who knows where I can bring these clothes hahaha

lol - i'll take bootlegs too! Thanks guys. They are really poor - they won't buy jordans - only drugs.

I just saw how quiet the shelter can be on the first of the month. Even in shitty weather! But they are nice and happy. Not everyone gets high.

Nice of you. Actually we do need clothes for our sister shelter (domestic violence) but they mostly need mens clothes and bigger sizes.

I did a one year volunteer program in Philly fighting homelessness when I was 21. It changed my life. I do AIDS stuff now, which has a high percentage of people who are poor and homeless.

It's nice that on TA, you brought up the issue of homelessness. All of us can lend a hand. Can't help you with DVDs (don't have any) but I can donate some money to Project Home in Philly.

Im taking a bus- hahaha but i am super sleek at packing a ton of stuff into a small package- soooo i am sure i can finagle it.

Thanks guys. I am studying occupational therapy and so alot of what we do is basically try to get the person to be independent in daily life and life's activities. I am in a non traditional setting but so happy to be in it. I'm not in the typical - nursing home, out patient/long term rehab, schools, etc...
