The Auranaut - Yo-Yo

Anyone by chance know where the vocals in this came from? Long shot I know

The world needs more producers like this Get that cookie cutter shit out of here!

probably same samples as people want be needed, some indian movie or something.

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Feb-14-2011 20:32:

sounded cookie cutter to me. Synths used 10 years ago , form used 10 years ago, production used 10 years ago. This is about as drab as it gets. Unless this was made 15 years ago, I would call it rather cookie cutter ish.

This track has more feel and emotion than 90% of the music released today.

To each their own

Posted by Zak McKracken on Feb-14-2011 20:34:

its 12-13 year old haha.

when you compare everything to lets say a track like this made in 2000, it makes everything about that posted track so damn normal and adult contemporary ish.

even scot project was years ahead of that shit happening at the same time. That track is just so damn conventional. Not saying it is bad. But there is nothing novel about it at all.

This track sounds cheesy and the breakdown seems out of place.

well you have extremely bad taste and if you can't notice the things in these tracks that are different in cutting edge, it doesn't really bode well for your own work. These tracks and artists where the ones making headway in EDM while the rest where just coasting along doing the same shit over and over.

It's right in the middle of the track....

A little to hard and acid for my taste, I have overdrive on vinyl though

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Feb-14-2011 22:36:

you don't have to like it but I mean at least recognize the cutting edge stuff that is in these tracks. I suppose that is my point. They were trailblazing while everyone else was doing the same shit over and over and over.

what's cutting edge, i'm not familiar w/ the genre but the production technique seems nothing unique even for 2000.

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Feb-14-2011 23:26:

the gate kick drums , there were no sample libraries at the time.
The triplet bass pattern
The form, going from a 12/8 feel to 4/4
The addition of bars upsetting the ubiquitous 8 bar phrase
The breakdown actually has movement and isn't predictable
The shokk tune has that sample that goes whuaw
The bass at the time was rather new. The way it is pitched to give it that character
The detuned saw port synth had not really been done before
the use of percussion that were actually processed to sound different than the standard TR sounds.
The syncopation and placement of sounds was rather ingenious.
Those raw aggressive sounds were not really common
The fact that the SHOKK tune was done with software.
I remember back in the day everyone was wondering how the hell it was done.
The more aggressive sound and combination of both rhythm and melody in a way that was quite unique.
Nobody was asking this about the tunes the OP posted. Everything is very evident.

fuck I could go on.

nice to know i was listening to cutting edge trance when i was 13 by mad4brad standards.

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Feb-14-2011 23:36:

not saying it was the only kind but there was a shift around 2000 with most of the innovations being made in the german hard trance scene.

Posted by Beatflux on Feb-14-2011 23:40:

Was Overdrive really big when it came out? I think it had a radio edit.

Posted by MSZ on Feb-14-2011 23:41:

yup, music video too.

in germany but nobody really knows who he is even to this day really. It is quite strange. He is one of the most sought after remixes but there seems to be this iron curtain west of germany regarding his exposure.

Ripped from Oakenfold 1999 at space Ibiza. Best Essential Mix ever, and I told Oakenfold that on Twitter the other day.

Posted by Kid_presentable on Feb-15-2011 05:50:

m4b those kick drums are horrible even for 10 years ago..To each their own.

edit* didn't realize it was hard trance...i guess that was the norm.

I hate to say it, I really think I heard the samples somewhere but can't remember. And it isn't acid!
