JOHN DIGWEED
If youre not an avid follower of dance music but are tuned into popular culture at all youve likely experienced music touched by the hands of John Digweed. Originally hailing from England but having clearly arrived on the global scene well over a decade ago John has long since cemented his name in the pages of dance music history. His list of achievements is groundbreaking to say the least. Highlights of which would be the first proper dj mix compilation (The Mix Collection, done with Sasha), being the first British dj to hold a residency at what was then the worlds most well known club in NYC (Twilo, also with Sasha) as well as having remixed music by William Orbit, Underworld, Quincy Jones, Mr Fogg and New Order.
John Digweed is a DJs DJ. The beauty of what he does lies in just how different he really is from his contemporaries. From his early beginnings in Hastings, England at the age of 15 in the blossoming scene of acid house to the apex of the international djing world he has created and maintained a level of integrity that is the benchmark for both djs and producers globally. In fact, he has reached the very top of his profession, being voted #1 in a voters poll. John Digweed has become the peoples choice while maintaining his longstanding presence in underground dance culture. His popularity as both a dj and a person seems to have no limits, but his efforts transcend djing alone, he is as much a producer and promoter. His moniker Bedrock is actually three things: a record label, a promotions company and a studio production partnership with Nick Muir.
His management and creative direction for the Bedrock record label spans over 12 years with the vision and creative insight to seek out mixes and remixes from the worlds best producers . To have a record released on Bedrock serves as the global stamp of production quality, ingenuity and integrity for underground producers worldwide. In fact, the name John Digweed is synonymous with those very qualities. From the nights he has either created or been a part of (Bedrock, Northern Exposure) to his world renowned mix cds (Renaissance, GU, Northern Exposure, Transitions and Bedrock compilation album`s 10 ,11 12 and Structures) he has consistently produced characteristic products that stay in demand, himself included.
As one half of Bedrock the production duo he has landed two tracks in the top 40 (Heaven Scent and For What You Dream Of) the latter of which made it into the hit movie Trainspotting. He has even tried a bit of acting himself (Groove). He and Nick Muir as Bedrock the production team also scored a Hollywood film (Stark Raving Mad) as well as the animated release of Spider-Man for Sony / MTV. Hes toured every corner of the planet including bus tours in the USA (Delta Heavy and Area 2 (with David Bowie and Moby) , The legendary Big Beach Boutique in Brighton with Fatboy slim had him gladly performing to 250,000 and most recently selling out the O2 Brixton Academy for Bedrock`s 12th Anniversary.
His Transitions Radio show is now it`s 10th year and is still one of the most successful dance music shows, being broadcast to over 30 countries across the world to a weekly audience of over 12 million.
JOHN O'CALLAGHAN ADDED TO THE LINEUP!!!
That's an odd combo, but it's definitely some bang for your buck!
Odd combo, but then again with Digweeds slower style it allows JOC to come on later in the night (I'd imagine) to banged it out! 140 BOOOM BOOM
Very strange combo. Looks like it may be an early night for Diggers? Anyone know set times?
Digweed is playing SD on Thursday and LA on Saturday. He's probably resting up for Saturday.
If Digweed is playing before JOC, I'd hope for a 11-2 set at minimum. Or 11:30-2:30. Then JOC close it out. I dunno how it'll be. I can't imagine anything less than 3 hours for Diggers, so that's my best guest.
Who knows, maybe it will indeed only be a short set though. I've seen headliners come on and shockingly do less than 1 hour sets before, so you never know.
I'll try to get set times and post them. I imagine right now it's still TBD going by history.

John O?Callaghan?s ?Unfold? cover revealed!
In April 2011, the new album of John O?Callaghan will be released. ?Unfold? marks the next chapter in the impressive career of the number one Irish DJ, producer and label owner. While John was in the final stages of producing the album, he asked all creative minds to come up with a design for the cover of the album. Who wouldn?t want his or her design on the album of one of the world?s best trance producers? After many entries, John made the final decision and named Irfan Amran the official winner of the competition. His visual translation of ?Unfold? will be the face for the upcoming album by John, which is filled with uplifting trance with a blend of vocals, chillout and plenty of tech for the Joint Operations Centre fans. A great honour for a great designer. Time to hook up with the winner and find out about his work, style and love for dance music!
Congrats on being chosen the official winner of the John O?Callaghan ?Unfold? cover contest, Irfan! How does it feel to realize your design will be spread all across the globe soon?
Irfan: ?I can?t even begin to describe how awesome I?m feeling right now! It?s extremely overwhelming and I think it may take a while for me to fully absorb all this!?
Why did you enter the contest, what was the big challenge in this for you as a designer?
Irfan: ?I?m a big fan of John! When I saw the album design competition for his upcoming album, I decided to give it a shot although I never really thought I could end up winning. The biggest challenge for me was actually having John to notice my work amongst the possible hundreds of others!?
How did you translate that ?Unfold? feeling into a design?
Irfan: ?I put myself in John?s shoes and tried to really comprehend and feel what it was like having to constantly growing and developing in his career as a musician, to work around the production and to breathe into a new life with an addition member to the family. The most essential part of all that was how they all unfold for him beautifully and in sync. Using all these details that I obtained, I let it flow into a design like how I basically express myself in designing.?
Are you doing a designer study or work as a designer?
Irfan: ?At the moment, I?m studying engineering, albeit I spent a great amount of time treating Digital Arts and Design as a hobby. And although it is just a hobby, winning this competition is definitely the best thing that has ever happened to me!?
Are you a big dance fan? How does that reflect in your work?
Irfan: ?I?m a huge fan of the EDM scene, especially trance! I?m a designer with diversity of inspirations, ideas and genres. Big dance is all about creativity, expressing oneself and being true to oneself. These qualities that big dance possesses do not fall far from that of a designing?s.?
Is the cover for ?Unfold? characteristic for your designer style? Do you have any specialties?
Irfan:?For now, I?m still in the ?exploring? stage. I do not have any specific style to any of my artworks but I?d be more than glad to apply something new to my works every now and then. Once again, I would like to thank John O?Callaghan for this wonderful, wonderful opportunity.?
?Unfold? is set for release in April 2011. The first single, ?John O?Callaghan & Timmy & Tommy ? Talk to Me? will be released Monday the 14th of February, on Subculture.
Any updates on set times? Will be there early but curious since some friends may come in late.
Excited for this! Hope some of you guys can come up to 414 and say wadup
