Another question regarding burned cds.

Hey guys,

Here's my question/problem. Say I type up a report, and I want to save it to a CD-Rom. I go to Easy CD Creator-Data CD. I save my text to the CD, BUT I can't modify it in anway. If I go back and change a paragraph, it won't let me save. It says error writing to disc, it may be full or read only. I look at the properties and the CD is full and read only. So I un check the read only box. But it still won't let me modify the CD. Also, how can the CD be full by burning just a 1 page report?

Soo...how do I save a report to a CD, but still have the ability to modify it and save again at a later date?
By the way im using windows 2000, easy cd creator 4 and Microsoft word.

Here's some advice:

Use a floppy, because even 25 page reports take up like 150kb. It's much easier to keep track of, less likely to get scratched.

But lets say for the sake of example you had to burn a ton of files to a CD, and you wanted to be able to change them. You should get a CD-RW, not a CD-R, and using the Re-Writeable CD, select the proper options, and burn it. Then you can go back and burn over the CD again and again.

Just to add to this...

You can re-use and/or update a CD-R. You just have to make sure that your burning program is set to leave the last session open when it burns. Most automatic apps like Easy CD creator 4 finalize all CD-Rs...and in my opinion...that sux.

Good point. Just don't select finalize session. If you don't finalize the CD, you can keep burning up to the maximum capacity of the CD.

why saving on a cd ??? cdr are for archiving files ie. storing files when your hard disk is full or when you want to pass a huge file to a friend. It was not meant to save files as you work on them... your best bet is to save the files on your hard disk and when you're done to burn them on a cd...

You need to read a FAQ on burning cds... cause you seem like you have no idea what's going on with a cd burner.

you, people, don't know anything about this. it's called DirectCD - you format a CD with the program (i use CDRWs, dunno how it's possible to edit data on a CDR) and after you format it, you can use that CD as a floppy. very convenient. i back up my documents and once in a while synchronize them with the help of the Briefcase thing

I think the problem is that I am using CD-R's, not CD-RW's.

yes I know DirectCD but i didn't mention it because it is the worst program ever! All that DirectCD does is reburn the files again and again, so if you saved the file 20 times, you'll see only the latest version but in reality that files takes about 20 times the place it is supposed to. Plus the format of the cd is not very compatible generaly speaking. Its slow, waste space on cds and ain't compatible.
