Near-death encounter after PvD

Driving home to philly after pvd, about 2 mins away from my house. As I come up bent uphil road, a car is flying towards me and at first, I think the dude is just swirvng, but he keeps going head on towards me. I swirve to the left and he flies inches away from my front. I was unbuckled coz I was coming from gas station and its a short drive. My girl is dozing in the seat next to me ad all I thought thank god we avoided him.

The fuker SLAMS INTO A LIGHTPOLE behind us, showering the car in spray of car fragments. The lightpole is broken 2/3 up the pole! How the fuck that happens?
The wires are dangling above the wreck. I am afraid to see what's inside... the front wheel well is where legs would normally be. Inside, a dazed man, contorted in an unnatural lotus position, surely with a broken hip, at least.

While m calling 911, dude is moaning... saying MY DAUGHTER... I look back and car seat is empty. I shit brix... running around back and yelling at 911 operator, I'm yelling SEND A FUCKING AMBULANCE, STAT. SEND JAWS OF LIFE. HE'S BADLY FUCKED.

No signs of any kids.

Cops pull up in record time, possibly 3 mins after my call. It was surreal... I explained and gave my info. Cops blocked off the road and sent me home, where I proceeded to get shitfaced and passed out.

I counted every blessing today. It was ... I have no wrds. I'm. In shock. Nearly cannatonic.

eek, I wonder if you can find out what happened, because, knowing me, I would be having nightmares about this until I found out if everyone was ok! Especially if there was a possibility of a child (or even the idea that a child lost her father??) Sorry you went through that!

There was no child in the car, he was just muttering. I called PD but they said the won't release any info, citing privacy laws.

I didn't sleep... just kept replaying it over and over. It was like being in a video game. When it happened, it was like I anticipated it to happen. I was clear as a glass. I kept thinking "don't hit my girl"... I didn't give a shit if it was me flying through windshield. I don't know how but it was a miracle.... closest call of my life.

Wow, crazyness im glad you are both ok. And not to take anything away from your story but last night as I was driving home from PVD as well at like 5:30am in Westchester. a car in front of me swerved from the left lane across the middle lane into into the back end of a SUV causing the suv in the right lane to flip over. It was so absurd, i saw the whole thing in slow motion, the other guy must have dozed off.

It really is crazy to think if i had left the city 3 min earlier, or was driving 5 mph faster that could have been me. Thank god the cars were structurally sound despite flipping over and everyone was ok...relavely

I could imagine how you kept seeing on repeat. A similar incident happened to me few years ago my 18ft truck flipped over by Giants Stadium and I made it out fine including the truck. I kept looking at the picture I took that evening and kept replaying it in my head ;-)

The important thing is you made it out alive and well. But just make sure that you always wear your seatbelt even if it's a 1 minute drive back home from a gas station.

This is why I decided that no more night driving for me, unless absolutely a must. Too many people acting like idiots on weekend/nights. If I feel like I am falling asleep, I usually find the nearest exit and find a safe place to sleep for few hours. I'd rather sleep in the car than chill in morgue. Usually 2 hours of sleep keeps me going for another 2 or so.

Everyone thinks you can predict what happens next and has an illusion of safety behind the wheel. Sadly, too many reckless or distracted drivers make it such a dangerous experience. Sure, cars became a lot safer but we're nowhere near in terms of car safety where all the risks and laws of physics can be changed to one's advantage.

Interestingly, this was a 2nd close call in 2 days. On Friday, I'm going on 95 and there's a Chevy Avalanche on my ass, tailgating. I'm going 75 in left lane, trying to get away from him, almost feeling something about this idiot. Then, moron swerves to the left and slams into concrete divider and starts flailing left to right. I'm thinking he's either going to slam into me and then get nailed from behind or crash into cars in right lanes. I see sparks flying in my rear view mirror and somehow he manages to maintain control of the car. Even more strange is that he KEEPS GOING LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED, maintaining nearly same speed. I gave him a wide berth and stayed well back of this idiot, in case he decided to have another episode like that. What's even more weird is that car obviously had some damage but he just kept going, not even stopping to check out the damage.

just a really odd weekend....

damn man..thats so scary..reminds me of the time my girl was following me to drop my car off on the expressway..i kept checking the rearview mirror to make sure she was behind me..i switch lanes..look in my rearview mirror and see her mazda spinning and getting hit by cars on either lane next to her..i pulled over as fast as i cud on the shoulder got out of the car and ran 300 ft down the highway and pulled her out of the car..thank god she was wearing her seatbelt...one of the scariest moments of my life..all happened while listening to 4 Strings - Catch A Fall.. hope this guy is ok..ill say a prayer for him..

Shit G... that's messed up... glad she is ok. I can imagine the feeling, its scary as hell when people you love are in danger and there's little you can do. Overwhelming.

Yeah, I'm not a religious person but I questioned everything since that moment. I did say a prayer for the dude several times... it was bad. The dude was twisted like a rag doll... bad shit. I was afraid to go near his car, thinking he's dead. I didn't see any blood but he was pinned bad. It probably took a while to get him out. I wish I could know what happened to him, to know he made it and that it only looked bad, but he's not badly hurt.

jeeeeez. Glad you & your girl are okay, if shaken. I was in a bad wreck two years ago that still makes me a tense driver to this day-- I can only sympathize with how much you're replaying things now. Just value that you guys are okay, kiss your girl, and wear your seatbelt even if you're just to/from the gas station!

statistically speaking, most accidents actually happen within less than 1-2 miles from your home...next time wear your seatbelt even when you're that close to home! glad to hear nothing happened to you tho

damn another crazy story - good to hear your safe.
