At the age of 17, Johan Gielen started DJing in what has become his homecountry - Holland (he was born in Belgium) and has during the last 15 years build up an international fame spinning as a DJ in Japan, Australia, Germany, Spain, Holland, Belgium, England, Northern Ireland, Israel and now also as resident DJ at Club Gorgeous in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Besides DJing Johan is a very sucessful trance producer working with his "partner in music" Sven Maes. Johan and Sven are behind European smash hits from Airscape, Balearic Bill, Des Mitchell and Abnea.

Furthermore, they are well known for their remixing skills which can be heard on productions on releases by Chicane, Delerium, Ti�sto, Scooter, etc.

By Car

From the North

Hwy 404 South and get off on Hwy 7. Go East on Hwy 7 to Woodbine Ave. Go South(right) on Woodbine Ave. and VIVA will be on your left (East Side) of Woodbine Ave. just North of Hwy 407.

From the East

Hwy 401 West to Hwy 404. Go North on Hwy 404 and exit on the Steeles / Woodbine Ave exit. Go North on Woodbine until you just pass over Hwy 407. Viva will be on your right.

From the West

Hwy 401 East to Hwy 404. Go North on Hwy 404 and exit on the Steeles / Woodbine Ave exit. Go North on Woodbine until you just pass over Hwy 407. Viva will be on your right.

From the South

Hwy 404 North exit on the Steeles / Woodbine Ave exit. Go North on Woodbine until you just pass over Hwy 407.

Via Mass Transit

Transit Map

Arrive at Finch Station. Take the York Region Transit Route 1 bus via Yonge or Bayview to Hwy 7 and Woodbine. Walk south on the East side of Woodbine to VIVA, about 8 minutes.
The last bus leaves Finch Station at 1am Saturday morning.

To leave VIVA you can take one of 2 routes.

1. Get on the TTC route 24D South bus that runs along Woodbine Ave. and get off on Steeles Ave. Then take the TTC route 53 West bus to Finch station. First route 24D bus leaves Woodbine and Major Mackenzie at 6:30am Saturday.

2. Walk North on Woodbine Ave. to Hwy 7. Take the York Region Transit Route 1 via Yonge or Bayview bus East to Finch Station. First bus leaves Markham-Stouffville Hospital at 7:30am Saturday.

Interesting indeed... However, I have been to VIVA many times and Ivals drops some serious trance in that place, which could explain the association..

Also when he used to dj at MEOW he did a very good job at warming up the place before Mark would come on..

oh how i love all age events, but honestly there should be more!

question: what the hell is "gangwear"?

just like bandana's? that's all i can associate with it

I guess it means no pants with the crotch at your knees, no 35 lbs silver chains, no ban-aids on your face (like Nelly), no NBA apparel, and no ballcaps that aren't centred on your head (like those people that have a hard time reading the instructions on where ballcaps).

Basically it means that you should dress appropriately for the event, and not like a jackass wannabe thug.

errr a couple of questions from a clubbing noobie
1) about the dress code - anything else can be worn (ie: running shoes and cargo pants) ? as long as i dont look like i have '******itus'? (thats my personal word for it )

2) would glowsticks be not allowed or not appreciated for this event?

Its virtually the same, except the light show surrounds you when you're dancing (they've got reflection mirrors ), and the club itself is about 10 times smaller.

VIVA is not 10 times smaller than Guv mainroom.

Guv mainroom = 22,000 sq ft
VIVA mainroom = 18,000 sq ft

Plus the focal point of the club is the dj booth; basically the whole club faces the dj the way it should be!

oh..........I am so FUCKING sorry that I was not born 8 months earlier so I could go check out all the other parties going on. Try to remember when you were 18 and wanted to hit up all the good stuff but couldn't.

The high ceilings really contribute to your impression of the club . And what I posted was simply the impression that I got, nothing more . Sorry if I mislead anyone.
