disapointed with montreal
Some of you may say I'm full of shit some of you may say whatever but for a city that says they are all about house music and tech house and techno I'm surprised no one is out to see a legend. At work

I really wanted to go but the storm made the drive up really unfriendly. As soon as I saw Jimpster's name on the bill I said it's going to be amazing, and it's going to be really slow. I don't see the Saturday crowd going for that sound at all, but at least there would be a guaranteed audience.
Also, Garreth Emery at Circus most likely took a lot of the friday crowd away, he's got a huge following cuz he's played a few times at Circus the last few years.. I'm sure Circus was rammed to the tits last night.
i'm not suprised, fridays at stereo have been hurting for a while now...think its proof new strategies must be implemented.
build your night on local talent and profit maher. Pandering to the whims of a few will never work, it has been proven over and over in Montreal.

I know they don't play deep house, but both of these guys are known for mostly the deeper side in terms of their productions. Deep House has almost never drawn in an afterhours setting, hell they don't do that good in normal bars/clubs either. Nothing new.
I personally love the stuff, but it is like the scarlet letter here.
not enough hulk pill smashness or something.
HAHA i agree with everyone and the club was actually nicely busy i was not ranting about that i was talking more about all the peeps that say ohhh we never get any good quality house music !!!!! here it is and there you are not thats all
i felt like ranting last night and chez and Jamie played such amazing sets !!!!

Friday's @ stereo are not as good as they used to be. Way too many buena note people arrive there and at 6 am the place is half empty :s

| Originally posted by WittyHandle I didn't say it was bad. I said the crowd wasn't reacting well to the deepness he tried to put on at first so he pumped it up a bit. They gave a better response from there. |

Entirely possible I misunderstood your post. Grey skies take their toll.
where are the days where saturdays use to be deep house @ aria with residents like maus, fred everything and nic b
they managed to mix deep and techy and funky to form that perfect blend where its not just wah wah sounds all night and it stays interesting...
house djs: wether your techy, deep, funky wtvr: mix up your shit. no one wants to hear the same beats over and over all night
my 2 cents
and for christ sake if the place isn't a sausagefest play a vocal or 2 so that we can see some tits.

I arrived at around the time of the original post, and was surprised at how dead it was, but it filled up pretty nicely by about 4:00.
I was in town on business, and although I didn't have anyone to go with, I just couldn't turn down a chance to go to Stereo.
Although Chez Damier's mixing left a little to be desired, he was dropping some serious bombs on the crowd. I was very pleased to hear warm, Detroit-influenced house grooves, almost shining out of Stereo's hallowed speakers. I was the guy with the tucked-in dress shirt (I basically came straight from work), dancing my ass off with a huge smile on my face near the front left speaker. As someone lives in Toronto and who doesn't get to hear music in Stereo very often, I think I may have been a smiling a lot more than your average Stereo-goer that night.
I gave Jimpster about 45 minutes, but he didn't pick it up fast enough to keep me interested, so I left because I was extremely tired from a very long day. I'm sure he picked it up, because I have seen Jimpster play very well before.
Some of the tracks of the night goes to:
Both by Chez Damier.
As an aside, speaking to the viability of Friday nights at Stereo in Montreal, I was at Rouge before I went to Stereo, and not a single person I talked to had even heard of Stereo. To me, this was not only disappointing, but also seemed a little concerning. The fact that no one had even heard of Stereo to me indicates that Stereo's promoters should be doing a little better job about getting the word out.
