synth used for main melody in deadline

Hey guys,

Wondering if anyone knows what synth was used for the main line in this song? I have a jp8000 and have been trying to make this sound i can get close but I think it may be a different synth.
I thought id find the answer by using the search function but strangely enough i didnt!

cheers,

and to the OP, sounds like the typical JP saw sound to me.

Well there is the weird piano type synth/sample. That's horrible.

Then there is the classic detuned saw synth too, it's a supersaw but with less detune.

Posted by madmuso on Feb-28-2011 05:23:

I dont mind the piano part!

hmmm, will mess around with my jp a little more.
cheers guys,

Hey guys,

while we are on the subject of this song, what would you call the sound that comes in at the 24 second mark? Its like a flicky bass type sound.
Just wondering what the common term for this sound is so I can investigate further. Any recommendations on good synths to make this sound would be appeciated. Below is the link,

cheers again guys,

Just a rolling bassline.

Posted by madmuso on Mar-01-2011 05:35:

Rolling bass line, another term ive just learnt, cool.

but what synth is best to make that sound? That particular bass tone/sound tends to be assigned many times to a rolling bassline.

you can hear the bass is just a standard offbeat bass but there is another layer there, not sure if its a different synth altogether or its the main bass getting sent to a delay, hard to tell exactly, also seems to be some sort of flanging/phasing going on as well...

as for the main bass, its quite attacky, almost like there is some distortion or maybe even bit-crushing on it

Posted by itsamemario on Mar-01-2011 07:32:

i doubt they'd use bitcrusher, seeing as the track is from 99 (?), but i do sense a hint of distortion.. and i think it sounds too tidy to be a delay, and it changes a little bit on the end of the bar... sounds like xXx xXx xXX XXx, or something along those lines. on mono speakers so cant really comment on the panning, but i seem to remember there being some slight panning action going on on the bass too..

Posted by madmuso on Mar-01-2011 11:16:

any ideas on how to create that sound by either software or hardware?
I really wanna add it to my collection of sounds!

Posted by Aesthetic on Mar-02-2011 05:35:

The lead sound was definately done with a jp8080, considering Benno from rank 1 is responsible for the masterpiece that is deadline and he absolutely raped the jp8080 between 99-today

Posted by DJ Robby Rox on Mar-02-2011 08:26:

That does not sound like a delay at all on the off beat bass. Id be surprised if it was. Not to mention the running bassline seems very static and doesn't jump at all. So I'd guess its its own synth, likely very similar patches though.

You can make that entire song in 5 seconds with Nexus. I'm sure Nexus already has pretty close leads like that and theres nothing elaborate or complex about anything in the track. Even z3ta has some JP patches that sound pretty close, although it wouldn't have that same analog "bite" like where you hear very tiny grooves in the sound. And I'm not talking about pitch lfos it just sounds analog the lead.

Posted by Imu on Mar-07-2011 04:00:

bass has two layers definitely. layer one is just a standard oompa oompa bass lol. layer two (the offbeat one) sounds like a delay, very little DSR, which gives it the cleaner, sharper sound.

Hey!

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I am wondering how this lead sound was made as well.

As an owner of JP8000 I can tell that the tone sounds like it's coming from it. But I can't get the plucks to sound like that (Around 30 decay and envelope depth, rest zero). Does anyone know if JP8080 makes a big difference with the unisono mode and added noise on osc 2? Maybe that's what is missing.

On the other hand Benno's wiki page only lists a JP8000 and not a 8080.

Any tips are welcome

jesus, i mean is says super saw on the fucking synth. use two layers , octave apart, you can add oss 2 if you want but not really needed. Honestly, i mean spend 5 minutes with your synth, It really isn't that hard. And take 2 seconds to google the difference between the 8080 and 8000. Do you want the fucking patch delivered to you via fed ex or something.

The blofeld does a much cleaner thicker supersaw synth.

As far as the bass , i mean that could be anything. Could be the jp8000, he lists a korg ms 20 which would be the perfect synth for that. I"m sure he had a virus , and a nord like all the other trance guys. Basically there are 20 or so soft synths that could ld those sounds.

Sir, you have won the internet.

The lead is not playing octaves. Didn't even take 2 seconds to hear that (:.

I know the differences between the JP8000 and 8080. What I don't know is how big of a difference does it make. Anyway the pluck does not sound right with the JP8000. I can post an example... It really isn't as easy as it sounds (the reverb gives additional head ache). And no, it isn't the settings, but I will post those as well:

Super Saw, Detune 83
Filter: Decay: 34, deph: 29
Resonance: I think it was about 25
ADSR: "Square"

And that's more or less it. Can't really get closer than this IMO. And it's still pretty far. I accept FED Ex delivery, make sure not to use delay on that.

I didn't know blofeld can do supersaw... Example?

Posted by Deillon on Jun-17-2012 09:07:

LFO on the pitch will also make it more alive. Don't think resonance is needed here.

goddamn

the fact you have a saw tooth wave, you have a fucking octave. So you are hearing octaves, How prominent you want that octave would make one use a subossilator so 1 , i wouldn't give your ears much credit if this sound puzzles you therefore when someone gives you some advice, listen.

B. You know the differences between the 8080 and the 8000 but ask what is different ?

Nothing you fucking mong. The 8080 is the 8000+ a few bells and whistles.

That sound is the jp 8000. If you can't figure out a fucking synth with 15 parameters, i mean fuck you. Is it really that fucking hard ? There is a fucking guy selling a soundbank had you done a search that would give you the fucking sound.

This forum is becoming a haven for idiots to demand people to wipe their asses. Had you done a search, either here or google, you would have your fucking answer in gold lettering. Maybe take 10 minutes and read the manual. I don't. It pains me to see people so fucking lost without someone to hold their hand every fucking step of the way.

i think i will come back in a few months when this board isn't so fucking retarded. Enjoy a few months of tranquility.

Posted by SuperSavver on Jun-20-2012 15:49:

My golden ears are not hearing octaves so there are no octaves!

Anyway this is how the plucks come out of JP8000:

Now I am hearing a sound so thin it could as well be dead.

So, anyone wants to "wipe my butt" with a JP8080? I can send you the midi if you don't have 3 minutes to read garage bands manual on piano roll. I do really like to hear the unisono detune...

Surely a synth masterer such as Looney4Clooney could get the sound out of JP8000 with his ears folded though.

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Jun-23-2012 04:10:

let me make this very simple

you cannot have a saw wave without an octave. You complaining about it being thin would be solved by increasing the bottom which would be done by doubling with another layer.

so let me re iterate fuck face. If you have a saw wave. You have octaves. That is physics. If you cant hear the overtone , that is your bad ears.

Well what I thought you meant is to take 2 Supersaws and layer them octave apart. Not sines or something.

But yeah, I think you are right. That sound is impossible to get out of JP8000 in one layer. They most likely used a JP8080 with the unisono detune or layered it with something else.

Interestingly it sounds much less fat in the radio edit version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEx1sZ0qkpw (0:44).
