When Insomiac gets the even thread up i will delete this one
DAMN i wish i could go to this!
Insomniac needs to start doing SF shows!
They have Avicci & Glenn Morison on "Saturday, April 22"
Though April 22nd is a Friday. I wonder if they mean April 22 or April 23rd.
If APril 23rd, maybe it's the start of then trying a weekly again.
There's no room in SF for more promoters right now. If Gareth wanted to do a "Northern Lights" concert up there, he wouldn't need Insomniac. There are a couple local promoters who could set it up. SF just lacks the venues versus LA. The Box is more of a club, but the main room is still bigger than pretty much any in SF, plus it has a big stage area (Ruby has one, but its stage is not wide.)
I just mean because they can pay for these big money events.
I wanna see Spundae go all out and do something fresh. Ruby Skye ever weekend is great, but that's all they do now!
A promoter isn't going to plan a big money event if it doesn't think it can't get money in return.
And again, you need the venues of good size (who can hold enough people to make it worth it) to do that stuff. And now there aren't only fewer venues in SF versus LA to do that, but outside of the club venues politics up there right now have made it incredibly difficult to get any non-clubs for special EDM events. Hell, Skills is having to throw etd.POP at the Factory. etd.POP at a club? Tells you how things are in the bay area right now -- difficult!. Markus referenced The Factory in his blog (it used to be called Sound Factory) after NYE saying NYE reminded him when he played there (around 2000). Now, Sound Factory can work as a club and sure it's had a little updating, but if that place wants to go anywhere on a higher scale it needs a rehaul, too. It's lived the last 10 years largely doing hip-hop and stuff.
And then the DJ has to want to do it. DJs (working with their agencies, PR, etc) are going focus on doing this type of stuff selectively. So when it comes to Cali, they are gonna usually pick one city to do the special thing in. And LA will pretty much always win that one because it's just a much bigger market.
This Gareth Emery event might not be to omuch more enhanced from a regular club gig. Or it could be -- maybe he'll have vocalists and stuff that night. I dunno. But if it's going to be a special "concert" event and he has to be selective with cities, it should be no surprised it's happening in LA.

live vocalists are neat to see. But my ears usually bleed. Because 90% of them can't sing worth a damn live (and no matter how bad they are most people will blindly be like OMG IT WAS SO AWESOME!!! You can't hide a bad live singer. Think Black Eyed Peas @ Super Bowl! Live vocals to trance tend to sound that bad, IMO!). So I prefer not to have them around, lol. Or lip-sync. Looks cheesy and it's slammed too, but at least they can't ruin the song!
Wow, $45!?
I've been spoiled by Circus. I'll try to make this, though.
They started at $30

kicking myself for that one...
i've never been to music box. how is the venue? how does it compare to the palladium?
I'd say it's more like Avalon. Maybe the stage area is wider?. It's also been completely remodelled in the last year or two so it's nice inside. And they put in new sound, so your ears won't bleed.
ugh! so glad I checked this board now at work. Thanks for posting, i just bought my tickets. *kicks myself for not being able to get $30 tickets*
I didn't get any info on this through Gareth's twitter or fb, nor did i receive anything from insomniac's fb or twitter before. What's going on?? did they just announce this today?

I guess we won't be seeing GE at circus this year. I paid only $20 and it was fantastic last year. bummer, all this locking the contract BS. blah!

Totally missed this one earlier, but I bit, I'm in. I also thought his set at Circus was great, will take some adjustment seeing a DJ like Gareth in a smaller venue...maybe it works better for the live performances or something?
I am glad that Gareth is at the Music Box. Than hopefully every one will appreciate what we do at Circus weeks after weeks... Open Space. LED Screen. wow.. Instead of getting stuck like Sardines in a Club, but some people might like that...but is just my opinion, Thats all I have to say... Peace Love Music Dance
Sadly, he's getting too big/popular/in-demand :[
ima pass on this

anyone know what time gareth might be on? i'm assuming blake jarrell will open at 10-12 ?
If this is part of his Northern Lights Concert series (which it sounds like), it's pretty fucking awesome. I just saw it at the Guvernment in Toronto this past weekend and his set was awesome. Should be at least 4 hours. I hope the sound people do a better job for yours though, because the live vocals you could barely hear when I went. I forget which song it is, but one of his newer tracks has an electric guitar-sounding solo in it, and having some guy play that live was really cool. That plus he's got a custom LED wall behind him for it, so it makes for a really good time.
Highly recommend it!
