yo, Halcyon....

Being a serious Trent Reznor fan like myself, how do you feel about this situation?

thoughts?

He grew out of his teenage angst and still makes quality music. Go Trent.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Mar-01-2011 05:35:

People change. Big deal.

Posted by The17sss on Mar-01-2011 05:44:

Hey, I'm all for Trent's success. Good for him. I'm just curious to hear a die hard fan like Hal's take. Some people don't take that stuff well but Hal doesn't strike me as one of them. We'll see....

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Mar-01-2011 05:46:

Yeah, I find it weird when people are accused of selling out when really theyve just gotten older and their attitudes and priorities change. If trent was 80yo and maintaining his teen angst so emos like hal would still worship him, I reckon itd be pretty sad.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Mar-01-2011 05:47:

Don't fret Kev, I bet Hal would suck trent off more now than ever.

Posted by The17sss on Mar-01-2011 06:24:

haha!

I for one am just glad that Trent Reznor doesn't look like a sad lesbian anymore. Also, he's on his way to an EGOT!

Posted by infiniteJEST on Mar-01-2011 06:59:

How dare you all talking about Hal behind his back Im telling I dont give a cuss

Posted by r5a on Mar-01-2011 07:07:

Most of that album soundtrack is Atticus Ross btw. you can clearly hear it, Trent did some nice edits here and there but Atticus Ross is the baller.

Trent is also a big baller just for embracing technology and not being a total faggit, I don't really care for NiN thou. but I can give him props for trying to push things and be experimental with shit

Posted by itsamemario on Mar-01-2011 07:25:

who says "baller" anymore?

Posted by stren on Mar-01-2011 08:23:

I thought it was funny that the same guy that sang "I wanna fuck you like an animal" is now giving an acceptance speech. I don't think he sold out, the music he made for the social network does bear the Reznor vibe to it. I am happy he's successful for making his music

and still relevant today. Those are my thoughts, at least.

I am a die hard Skinny Puppy fan before anything else. I'm truly not sure how it got started on here that I am all gung-ho for NIN - I understand I've said my part of how I feel about his work, but if you think I was listening to NIN back in high school and wearing black all of the time, you're sadly mistaken as I never even liked NIN until I was probably 20. After I liked trance music. Figure that out.

I really do not see at all what's not to take well. The misconception is that Trent is all fake angst and merely playing with the emotions of his fans like commercial "emo" groups did back when emo still existed. I like NIN quite a bit because it's not this at all, and indeed Trent has mentioned several times that the person on stage is telling a story with extremely mutable lyrics - it's a performance foremost, so assuming every song of his is directly about one thing or the other - most of which do involve very dark imagery - is far more a reflection of the audience than what he wrote the song about. Yes, many of his songs deal directly with depression and anger, but the art he makes is essentially synthesizer-based composition with pop hooks and vaguely experimental elements wrapped up in a few words that can take on a variety of interpretations. I hope it doesn't sound like I am candy-coating things in some sort of defense, it's just that the man on stage bellowing "God is dead" is in fact memorializing a time when he felt abandoned, and just because people can identify with this doesn't mean he is pulling their strings to herd them into buying merchandise.

I haven't even heard the Social Network soundtrack yet. I don't actually jerk off to every thing he has ever touched. It's just that I think he was the last person to truly take the reigns from previous innovators and transform it into a deeply personal work that is equally about the composer and the listener. It's the same thing people probably like the most about all electronic-based music.

//Also, he is expecting a baby any time now, and is married. He can't get away with singing Ringfinger anymore.

I think kev was just making a light hearted jab. No need for an essay detailing your inner most feelings and personal history.

I'm pretty sure i saw Marylin Manson wear Brooks Brothers once.

igk, this is what's called a conversation. If you knew how to conduct one, maybe you wouldn't have to hide in the middle of the circular coat racks at Babies R' Us anymore.

thx for the trip down emo lane

He's a sellout, that's what he is. A sellout of the worst kind. I hope he takes that Oscar and shoves it up his asshole, while he talks about how much heroin he did in "the good ol' days."

Fuck. Someone had to say it.

Who are we talking about again?

I think Hal is in denial about how much he loves Trent. He is clearly heartbroken. ((HUGG))

Posted by Halcyon+On+On on Mar-01-2011 21:17:
