Pioneer Rekordbox- How do you sort your music?
So i ended up grabbing the CDJ850's as well as a couple high end USB keys...
The CDJ's are phenom, and I am very happy that I didnt go for the 1000mk3's, Ill post up a review later.
Im in the process of starting the digital era and Im curious as to how other people are sorting their music on rekordbox. Right now I have about 150cds that I do not want to re sort digitally on Rekordbox.
So far my experience with Rekordbox has been mixed..the software is missing some key functionality and it is not multiple core optimized.. this makes analyzing large audio databases, very tedious. On the flip side, dumping all my beatport downloads onto rekordbox and then exporting to a USB key is sooooo much easier than formatting to .wav and burning CD's
So back to the title- how are other rekordbox users sorting their music?
i havent really looked into Rekordbox yet but Im wondering though, is it possible to play from the USB without using Rekordbox for organizing? Just by sorting mp3-files alphabetically or by date?
Feelgood,
I'm sort of in the same boat as you... Just started using the CDJ 2000s last week and I have a music collection that is 5000 songs deep (and I have a 6 core Mac Pro that wasn't fully utilized when analyzing the entire library, such a pity).
Given that I have so much music I've been using Dropbox to sync my collection between my Mac Pro (my main computer where I "manage" all my music) and my MacBook Pro (which I connect to my CDJs to "link" the music). I then just sort by "Date Added" usually to see what my newest tracks are. I can then drag and drop tracks onto each player once they are "linked" to play them on the CDJs (do the 850s do that as well?).
You can also create playlists within the Rekordbox program and export those playlists to a USB stick, external HDD, etc. Then you can search the music on said playlist.

Another big gripe is the lack of syncing/rescanning for imported folders.
Generally I download all my new purchases to my desktop to prelisten, and then I deposit them into my main music HD. Unfortunately, rekordbox does not scan the folders for new tracks when it is opened, and you have to manually relocate each track. Cosidering I have 20000 songs to sift through, this is a headache and a half. I tried re-adding the folder with the hopes that the software was designed to automatically register whether the folder had been added... but i just ended up with duplicates
Ill let some of these hiccups slide since its Pioneers first stab at the software market.. but version 1.5 BETTER fix these headaches.
The playlist feature is very handy though. Instead of scribbling a loose setlist for my nights, i can just dump the desired tracks into the anticipated playlist.
