Anti-Virus Programs
So I don't do much downloading these days or browsing so I haven't really had a need for an antivirus program in a couple of years.
Are there any free ones out there that you would recommend to me?
AVG. Bit of a resource hog at times though.
been using MS Security essentials and have been pretty pleased for what? 3 years or something?
i personally have not used an av in many years, i just try to stay away from dling any questionable exe/bat files.
Avira - less of a resource hog and, for free, quite effective.

I don't use AV.
I rather reformat my PC when it gets pretty slow.
It is better than start with already being slow by running AV and doesn't make me feel difference anyways except for annoying messages.
Depends on situation no AV is better.
How come I don't see such virus anymore which screws up user files suddenly?
Those nasty virus were pretty popular long time ago.
Are recent virus only sneak out personal info?
^^^
I would agree with that and I don't use one either, but I cannot access any of my work info from home, only my email because I don't have an AV program.
Thanks for the suggestions though. I will definitely check them out

These are the top 2 AntiVirus programs and have been for years:
BitDefender
Kaspersky
I have been using BitDefender for 3+ years and it has been the most thorough AV program I have ever used without slowing down your computer to a snail's pace. Kaspersky is just as good, if not better for being thorough but it uses more resources and is much more expensive.

Windows Security Essentials works best with Windows 7 machines.
It is free, kept up to date, defends better than most and is easy on system resources.
Highly recommended.

+1 on windows essentials
at least you know if Microsoft is behind it, somebody is updating the virus definitions... can't say the same about some of the other compeditors
in short: me.
I have battled and beaten so many of the 'next gen' malicious software over the last few years that norton updates my computer almost hourly to make me feel like I'm actually getting value for my subscription. I must have been the first to document a recent 'ransom ware' infection in their database or something.
If you are fed up with windows virus you can install linux ubuntu and add software like office 2007, nero, ares, adobe reader, fireworks and so on. Even you can install a Windows 7 theme.
