Any first impressions on Internet Explorer 9?

It had a significant number of downloads on the first day. Any thoughts on this beautiful version?

Haven't tried it, not going to bother either.

Microsoft in their infinite wisdom decided to remove all status indicators, so now it's impossible to tell whether a page is actually loading or doing sfa. Pile of shit imho.

You should see the shit i got once because i deleted "THE INTERNET!" from a friends computer that i was fixing. They were very angry since i removed the internet from their computer which was bough exclusively for the internet. Got around the problem by pointing the IE shortcut to FF instead. None the wiser, bless her heart.

Nice.

Total douche move, but nice, none-the-less.

I was just curious about it. I rely more on Firefox and Opera.

I've gone off Firefox, it used to crash multiple times a day even after reinstalling. Benn using Chrome for 4 months now and never have a problem.

I hate IE, especially since at Uni its default set to Bing which we can't change...Bing is the biggest pile of shit I have ever come across, searching for scientific stuff and it just comes up with advertisements!

Posted by LeopoldStotch on Mar-17-2011 00:23:

i jumped off the Firefox bandwagon, and hoped on the Chrome wagon. Once I started using Firefox 4 a couple of months ago, I never looked back. greater improvement over 3.

you guys can rip on IE, but most companies adhere to a oh so powerful technological "mandate" to use proprietary commercial software, such as Microsoft products. hence offices use IE. I still use firefox at the office for browsing, but i also have IE for company standard material.

which does also explain why blackberry will never go away.

Bing's "Travel" tab is excellent, but that's about all I use it for.

As for browsers, I use Chrome.

Ya I was just curious myself As far as I knew, most people were going the FF and Chrome route these days.

Safari pwns IE

Posted by bas on Mar-19-2011 20:25:

Benchmark wise, Chrome is supposed to be one of the best browsers you can get right now with Firefox & Opera right behind. Then IE9, then Safari. I read somewhere that the next Opera will be better, but Chrome will probably still edge those two out. I want Chrome, but they don't make it for anything lower than Snow Leopard

lol seriously?

Posted by JD8180 on Mar-19-2011 22:17:

been using it since I read it's a major improvement for IE. I find the UI to be almost the same as chrome (even more clean/pleasant than chrome imo), but still feel that chrome is faster.

has some integration though that is nice, like if you right click a picture, there's an option to "send as email" which automatically opens up outlook and has the picture attached to an email waiting for you to type in the address to send to.

it also allows you to pin individual sites to the taskbar, which for some sites that take advantage, can be useful (like facebook you can right click and choose to go directly to your inbox, events, other areas), though I like my taskbar nice and tidy and prefer not to have a bunch of sites pinned, but I'm sure some people will find it helpful.

all in all, I feel it was a huge improvement, but still slower than chrome, so I'm sure I'll be back on chrome soon enough.

Looking forward to trying it. Well, at work anyway, not at home. 7 and 8 have major compatibility issues with our firewall's content filter. Maybe 9 will come through strong.

The reason why I like Firefox is the add ons. The dictionary tooltip, just to name one, is so helpful when reading articles. Chrome hasn't come up with any meaningful add ons yet.

Internet Explorer 9 is not so bad. But i'll stick with Firefox.

^ what he said.

Also, IE in general can be such a PAIN in the ass from a web development point of view... It took a good 3+ hours of extra work to get the sharing functionality working in TA photo gallery...just for IE...meanwhile all was fine in every other browser.

Holy fuck. That would drive me insane.
