i used to really like sander bc he used to really fill the gap between house/trance but now he seems to just play the same stuff as tiesto with some trance sprinkled here and there.

heard his live set from energy and i dunno..didn't really enjoy it.

let's see how is asot 500 set will be like

Modthispny you're a good man. When I see his name on flyers now I get sad that the promotor wasted money on him. Man I use to love his tracks and style... Now I just shake my head. Still have respect for the guy, but just don't get it

Hopefully a douche doesn't come here from vegas or sutra defending him...

Posted by jdub889 on Mar-21-2011 19:17:

i enjoyed his set at marquee a while back, but i agree that his productions have gone downhill. likening his sets to tiesto's though ... that's harsh

The production quality going downhill and his current productions not aligning with your taste in music are two different things. I will give you that his style has changed a lot over the last few years, but he's still as talented of a producer as he ever was. The quality of his work hasn't changed, it just might not be your cup of tea anymore.

Jumping the gun a little.

A couple of the "from" tracks were released in 2010. "Hymn 2.0," "Daisy," "Renegade," "Reach Out," and "Daddy Rock" all were released in 2010.

Let's wait a little longer and see if SvD continues making "Love Is Darkness" tracks before stating he is selling out, becoming like Tiesto, or whatever.

i just picked those from 2010. the other 2010 tracks you mentioned i really like too, just didnt want to post 10 you tube links.

i know he's doing his artist album stint, which is why i let love is darkness pass, but koko? come on...

Posted by Contrasts on Mar-21-2011 20:12:

I can't believe Hymn 2.0," "Daisy," "Renegade," "Reach Out," and "Daddy Rock" got so much hype :/

Posted by srussell0018 on Mar-21-2011 20:13:

I don't really like Koko, but at least there's no vocals.

My god trance is just awful. No soul or creativity. So bad

SvD has always gone different directions and is always changing, I think this is largely more of him changing to a style that's not up your alley and also that his record box has gotten a bit stale, rather than judging the quality of the tracks on their own. I think a lot of those tracks are at least decent, even though not the SvD (or Purple Haze) from back in the day. But that's how it is with most producers. You hold them up on a pedestal from when you liked them the most and if they split off from there, it instantly terrible, he's sold out, he just isn't the same, etc. Anyhow, sometimes DJ goes through these periods where the DJ sets just don't have the same fire. But I think that's separate from his production quality.

Overall, you don't hear people complaining about his sets too much or anything, do ya? An "eh" review here or there doesn't mean the downfall of a DJ. And yeah, his Trance Energy 2010 set was WHACK. He played a lot of old stuff in it that just didn't fit.

Considering his production style in 2010 and the return of his Purple Haze alias (which he said he was doing away with for good a few years back), I feel his issue either 1) he's trying to do too much across too many styles, or 2) he's just trying to find a new sound for him. Him having his own sound in the past is basically what defined him, or 3) He's burned out right now and is pushing through to get by, or 4) I'm crazy.

To each their own... I thought those tracks were great. Even Markus loved one of them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHw8UNcD0sg

"Love Is Darkness" doesn't really seem to "fit in" with his 2010 productions to me, but maybe he is experimenting.

I was hoping it was about Col. Sanders.

Everyone has their opinions, but using markus as justification is kind of meeeh. Markus has been making me think lately. I love Markus too. Seen around 10+ times (yes I know some of you have seen him 239123 times). He's the only big name I consistently still vote for and stick up for. I like to think artists support other artists because its a jack off circle, meaning it's, I got your back if you got my got mine. NOT saying for ALL cases, but for some..

markus this year is causing a storm..all while going back to his roots. i can't wait to hear the dakota album it's going to be off the hook.

back to sander, he's still my 2nd fav dj, and i haven't seen him live since august of last year so i'll give him benefit of the doubt but he's definitely more house orientated now.

Yeah hopefully he doesn't go tooooo overboard with it. I never understood why people freak over producers who like to keep the style (talking in general, not just Sander). They take all this shit from people then they actually budge and try to go with a new sound. If the people bitching didn't like your original sound then why change to adjust to them (well we know why)? Doesn't that just make those "fans" bandwagons or fakes? I don't know just ranting...

If you heard Markus on NYE, then no thinking is necessary. At all!!

I wasn't using Markus as a justification (should have used a smiley face)... just using this thread as another opportunity to make fun of Markus' dancing back in May.
