TA DC Hub.

Could someone try and explain me how this works? Cause I can't do sh*t with it.

I launch the program, get logged in (share enough not to get kicked out) and when I try to search something, NOTHING happens!!!

It's like it's not working for me, for example when I try to browse a user's files, again NOTHING happens.

I'm on Cable so I'm online all the time.

Plz tell me how to get it workin'!!!!

Thanks

nEWB"!!!!!!!! AGHHHHHHRHRHRHRHRHHRHRHRH

ok, I calmed down... althought this thread has been done more times that mariah carey, the answer may be that

1) The ppl you are trying to download from have all it's sharing slots full. (btw, you should have at least 2 slots as u re in cable).

2) There are two modes you can use, active and passive. When u re behind a firewall or proxy or something like that u have to use passive mode, if not, u can't dload shit.

3) Maybe DC hates u and it won't let u dload anything.

Ok, I switched to passive (I did not even know that I'm behind a proxy or firewall)

Thanks you guys!!!

u may not be behind a firewall..

for some reason it doesnt like it unless i run in passive mode, and i certainly aint got no firewall.. DC is just a bit picky

you ain't no rocket scientist I see

I think you might have to learn to read first before going any further

when you connect to the hub it clearly marks to switch to passive mode if nothing happens ....

there's also a help file including with that program I believe ...

what has this world come to be

j/k

for my anime hub in direct connect, i made a forum and a picture site. in the forum, under "Faq/tutorials", theres several tutorials on how to get past certain routers and be able to download in active mode... if you want to check them out, go to http://www.animeplanet.d2g.com ... click on "forum", then go to "faq/tutorials" and there are instructions for linksys and a few other routers. active is WAY more preferable if you take the time to get out of passive mode.

well, passive mode is basically active mode, with less features... so theres no reason you should want to be in passive

as people have already said, passive is for people who are behind a router or sometimes a firewall.

if you are in passive mode, the main disadvantage is that you cant download from other people that are in passive mode as well. so, you get way less results in the search engine.

also, if you are passive you cant see ping times when you search, which is very helpful if you want to try someone fast to download from.

if passive you also cant use multi hub searches.

i think those are the only three things, but just the one about more search results should convince you enough im currently passive for the summer, but theres something weird with my router so im still not able to download in active mode... sucks. but i know those tutorials work, lots of people have used them and gotten it to work

thanks for the great tutorial Sothis, I wondered why I've never thought of it (although I did the same thing to get my ftp working through my router) . Thanks again.

BTW, I had a chance to browse your anime site. Very nice!

I myself just started two days ago to try to figure out the BS about closed ports on my router

I installed a router a couple months ago and since then tons of stupid stuff going on and well thanks to my laziness I never got around to trying to fix it all up

It's especially annoying cause I just got back on irc big time and it's painful when you don't know what you're doing with your router

thanks for your help sothis!
