Compression??

i have been making music for some time but then it comes to compression i fall short. i jsut wack a compress on things and dont fully understand what it does...i just mess around until it sounds louder.

any advice...links are welcome

No.

Compression is simply a way of controlling dynamics and is one of countless tools that people rely on to get the sound they're after. Like EQ, it's a basic tool that you should probably be familiar with because you will likely use it often, but knowing how to use it does not elevate you to "pro" status. What separates the pros from the amateurs is having the ability to write a solid song that people want to listen to AND having the ability to get a solid production - there's no magic bullet.

just search the word compression the last year for example. select only this subforum and thread titles only. theres millions of threads only the last months. learn to search and then search. its just four knobs its not that hard to learn either.

Dont worry too much about compression... concentrate on other things like arrangment, sound selection, sound seperation, envelopes

I totally agree. Those things will do much more in terms of a clean, clear sound than compression.
