PvD takes another stab at Tiesto

Trance music has been prominent in the mainstream media lately with Armin van Buuren and Tiesto collaborating with artists like Sophie Ellis-Bexter and Busta Rhymes do you think it could be the year of trance, and have you got any collaborations in the pipeline?

With the greatest of respect for my colleagues, Tiestos track Cmon (Catch em by Surprise) is not really a trance record its radio-friendly hip-hop with a dude rapping over the top of it and is not really suitable for playing in a club. I dont make a difference between trance, tech-trance and house, etc.; for me its all electronic music and some of its good and some of its not so good for my taste. I dont agree with this merging of R&B and hip-hop with electronic music, because our music has never been about bling and showing off. One of the topics at a Winter Music Conference lecture I was at just now was about how we go about handling cheesy pop overkill in electronic music sounds. But in four or five months time, dance music wont be commercially cool anymore and guitar bands will be back. Its always the same cycle.

Uhhh, has anyone listened to Paul van Dyk - Knowledge?

PvD is a cock cutter sucker.

That's not how I read it. The question assumes Tiesto is making trance now and Paul just says it's not.

But who is we in "about how we go about handling cheesy pop overkill in electronic music sounds."?

I don't think that overkill can be regulated anyways.

Saying that he doesn't care for electronic music being mixed with hip hop or R&B isn't really "taking a stab" at Tiesto. He's just saying he doesn't like that kind of music, which is perfectly reasonable.

I think Paul van Dyk needs to realize the difference between having an opinion, and what he should tell the public - no matter how strongly he believes in his opinion or even if he has to tell a "white lie". That is, I don't see the reason why he should ever insult or say something negative about an artist like Tiesto considering he's about at Tiesto's level. He's better off doing what he likes to do, and saying nice things about everyone else. I mean if he think Tiesto has a crap record or the idea of that kind of collaboration is horrible music, all he should say is either "no comment" or "that's not my style". Saying that he thinks it's bad music just makes him look like a jerk, despite his best intentions of probably telling what he actually thinks.

Wow, what an absolutely insightful quote from PvD. Truly opened my eyes to new avenues in the world, and the fact that trance isn't about bling and showing off!

Certainly not!

EDIT: I just listened to pvd - knowledge. I see your point. He must just think that's "good music" since he made it and is attached to it. I bet he has it made up in his mind that Tiesto just makes commercial tunes.

No matter how shit music PvD will ever make, he won't label it as "trance", "house", "techno" or other consumer name. He always calls it "electronic music".

Sure, PvD has gone down the shithole, but at least he ain't a hypocrite like so many others.

Well, I actually like what PvD's doing these days. And I agree with what you said, I just believe he needs to think a little bit more about his public image than he does.

Oh, well if that's the case, then maybe my problem is that I'm American.

I actually have, and there's this really cool thing you can do in America that Europeans seemingly haven't heard of. It's called bathing regularly.

You should learn how to spell words such as "you are" or "******" or "obvious" correctly because when everyone reads your post they're thinking:

bah, forgot a "that" in there
