Changing Cartridge from the Headshell??... Help
Hi ppl, well... I have Technics headshell with Pickering Cartridges, but ill buy new Cartridges... and im wonder how to change the cartridge to put the new one??.. i mean.. do I have to remove the screws?? does new cartridges comes with new screws or should i keep this to put the same screws to the new cartridge??
The new Cartridges will be Stanton 680 EL II
Thanks in Advance, Carlos
oh goodness...i hated having to install the carts on the headshells
one of the main reasons i bought my ortofons
just take that silly thing apart ... it's no big deal
The carts will come with screws, and usually with a little manual. But just look at the "construction", you'll see you don't have to be an engineer to mount them. Just some patience (and a steady hand
)
easy, very easy, but the only thing is knowing exactly the placement on the headshell. its usually in the manual of the carts u buy
i think i saw a thread about u asking about cartridges before.. .what did u end up getting? assuming standart carts not concordes
like liquid said, that is why he purchased ortofons and my poor ass purchased stanton trackmaster IIs, no room for errors.
Thanks to all your replies, I end up geeting Stanton 680 EL II...
I hope do the things right,.. ill read the manual... Later.
Btw you have Technics? If you bought them new, you might have noticed there was a white plastic thingamagig coming with it.
That's a stylus alignment tool. If you insert the headshell in that object, the stylus tip should align perfectly with the edge of that white ... erm ... thingy

that piece is used for measuring the placement of cartridge on the headshell. If you look at the top of the headshell, u have the placement of the screws, and its about half inch long... to get the best of cartridge performance and use, its necessary to have the screws tightened on a particular part of the cartridge; that is why u use the white plastic piece (to measure placement), it is a measurement tool.
CarlosM how's the cart installation coming?

LOL! This made me laugh.....not for the fact that someone was asking for help....all due respect there. What made me laugh was some of the memories I have of changing cartridges. Wait until you're doing a gig somewhere and suddenly a cartridge gives out on you. Believe me...it does happen. I've been clocked at changing a cartridge at under 2 1/2 minutes...that including alignment, adjusting the weight and anti-skate. After you've been spinning a while, it's something that you get to learn to do very quickly.....like before the song that's playing ends.
