Finally! A new synth announcement from Musikmesse that isn't "meh"!

This synth and I are both sporting some serious wood.

Schmidt 8-Voice Poly Analog

Not to shabby but what about the sounds?

Posted by cryophonik on Apr-07-2011 02:50:

I haven't seen any links to any sounds yet. Not that I care - the rumor going around is that this unit is 8 years in the making and waaaaay outa my budget. Some sources are saying that it will be either $25K or 25K Euros!!! Other sources are guesstimating a more "reasonable" $7-12K.

Anybody want to buy my like-new Virus TI2 for $25K? I'll autograph it for you....

It looks like a Prophet 8 fuccked a mini Moog and thats the baby they had.
It's what Roland and Korg should have made.

I think we should all chip in a few bucks and buy one. I'll even let us keep it at my house since I have the space for it and because I live in California, which is considered (by Californians) to be the geographic center of the universe. Each of you can stop by once every six months and play it for 10 minutes.

Oh yeah! I can help with this process. You guys give me the money, I buy the synth in my credit card (no problem) and them ship to your home next day!
I live in Brazil, nothing will happen with the synth, don't worry

I'm in, one condition - a tutorial on it. Looks a bit more confusing than my virus & nord

ya a supa synthesizer ya ya ... so awesome

Jesus Christ

BEAUTIFUL, he constructed a dream!

but some questions are automatically left on the air...
Do you think he will succeed in the "todays market" with so enormous and expensive synthesizer?
What kind of market he is focusing?
I'm in doubt even if he wants to compete with other manufacturers, maybe he's a rich guy that don't need more and more money...

Posted by Subtle on Apr-08-2011 07:23:

insane

Posted by Raphie on Apr-08-2011 08:06:

they seem want 25K euro for it though... (40K$)

Posted by Fledz on Apr-08-2011 08:33:

4 OSC, 7 filters with each having its own LFO. 157 knobs to control everything and there's still Unison and Detune for each individual OSC to come. Holy shit

What a great unassuming guy. But what uber ordinary sounds he chose to show when I'm sure it must be capable of some very cool sounds indeed!

Don't you just love the way Germans just do awesome stuff in thier garden shed, wtf!!

Posted by Zak McKracken on Apr-08-2011 15:43:

lol you are all such fanboys of analog.

Posted by MrJiveBoJingles on Apr-08-2011 15:54:

So, basically it costs as much as a new car.

Yeah, keep dreaming guys.

...and we all actually make music.

But, the overriding point here is, not that it is analogue, but that we have an appreciation for the craftmanship and detail that goes into a fine musical instrument. Any half-ass developer can make a softsynth, and any halfass newb can slap some samples together in a cracked version of FLS and call it a song. But many people strive for greater things, whether it's creating a fine musical instrument or creating and performing music at a higher level - and those are the people who can appreciate that level of quality and craftmanship. Newbs don't.

i do make music too, completely without any gear costing much, and all software, because thats whats works for me. if something like that would help me make music faster or better then i would be all for it, but i doubt it will help making better music for most people. i see the fun factor though, its like the newest BMW or something, id love to have it but it doesnt get me to work any faster than my opel corsa. its a luxury and if you got the money then why not.

Gearslutz vs TA?

Posted by DJ RANN on Apr-08-2011 19:32:

Jesus H Christ on a motherfucking bicycle.

I'm not by any means a Gearslut when it comes to the unveiling of some new analogue sysnth, but Dave's sentiments about wood are extremely apt here.

That thing sounds pretty fucking incredible. From what little I could hear of it, there were flavours of old roland synths and machines, as well as vintage moogs and oberheim in there.

The cost is not an issue - I can think of at least two people I work for who will reach for their black amex's without out even blinking an eye (if they actually haven't already).
