-- the second random thread

the second random thread

ok the sticky issue here needs to be discussed further. what should we do? its ridiculus, people dont read them and they dont see threads 5 places down the list and starts new ones instead. its just too many and really not well organized imo.

edited to "the second random thread" as it derailed pretty fast lol.

Posted by LoveHate on Apr-09-2011 23:51:

who the fuck are you?

the thread police?

ive noticed this a few times now, your always bitching about people making a thread similiar to a previous one...and now this..who cares?

Posted by Zak McKracken on Apr-09-2011 23:56:

id like to see this place cleaned up. nothing more. if you dont care then you dont need to post in this thread either. im trying to get a discussion on how it could be better for new members, now people are leaving one after one.

Posted by Scrittah on Apr-10-2011 02:18:

I care. I just think you're wrong. I'd rather have five stickies than none. And as for people not reading them and then leaving, if they aren't going to bother to read the stickies, I don't mind them leaving.

Posted by derail on Apr-10-2011 03:19:

i don't have an issue with the stickies. There are only 5 of them. Getting rid of 1 or 2 won't make much of a difference to people starting new threads for things which have already been discussed.

SCD: 5 Sticky threads is certaintly not "a lot". Practically speaking, and compared to other forums out there, we don't actually have enough stickies. I wouldn't mind 7-8. They *may need to be better organized, but removing them is likely to do worse than better. Thats something common sense would tell at least 90% of the population.

So newbies aren't reading the stickies enough, so in order to attract them towards the stickies... we're going to remove them completely?!

Clearly a wtf moment for me.

Also, lovehate makes an excellent point. "Who the fuck are you, the thread police?" 2 thumbs up for you lovehate.
He's right, you bitch more than anyone I know about proper thread etiquette.

If you're trying to get this place "clean", it would be more worthy of your time to report people to digi then to make a thread that will be gone in a week and likely read by 1-2 newbies in total.

And last, if someone removed the stickies I'd shoot them in the face. This is because they are also used by long term members like me and have some very valuable links that I still use till this day. Maybe... and I'm just saying maaayyyybbeeee, if you had actually read the stickies yourself at some point and gone through all the links you'd understand how important they really are. As a tip for the future, try thinking about the threads you make and maybe one day they will actually serve a purpose.

There's 5 stickies, that's it. What the fuck is wrong with you? Are you running a res of 640x480 or something

Yeah there really are not a lot at all.

I've been on forums with 20+ now that's a joke.

5 Stickies causing people to leave? That's a recipe for a good rofl waffle.

Posted by Zak McKracken on Apr-10-2011 09:36:

lol clearly im the only one finding it annoying then. its just that people dont seem to read them and whats the point then? stickies are good if they are used, updated etc etc.

Posted by Raphie on Apr-10-2011 10:39:

people choose the path of least resistance, noobs think just posting "your" question is quicker than reading a sticky, you will not change this behaviour unless you can sanction it..

Posted by TranceElevation on Apr-10-2011 11:27:

Those stickies are not appealing at all.

Meta-Discussion Ban.

Stop complaining about the forum and just work to improve it.

But you won't, because you're part of the burnt-out "old guard" who have little of substance to say but lots of bitching to do.

I class myself as part of this group, too, btw. Most of the time anyway.

Posted by cryophonik on Apr-10-2011 15:58:

We must have run out of real things to complain about.

We should sticky this thread and use it as the official anti-sticky complaint sticky.

im for this then. lets sticky some more threads too, especially some compression threads, baselines thread, soundcard threads, monitor threads etc etc. that way this forum will die slowly.

most of you are right about me though, i should definitely use my energy elsewhere lol.

Posted by DJ Robby Rox on Apr-10-2011 19:07:

What this forum really needs imo is star ratings for threads.

I love it on other forums. Threads like the kick thread would have 5 stars, favorite bassline thread etc. It helps you find new quality threads and makes it easier to everyone newbies included to find quality information. Then threads that aren't so quality can get 1 or 2 stars and what not. Threads that are useless (like this one =P) get no stars.

Posted by Zak McKracken on Apr-10-2011 19:10:

thats a new function and will not happen on TA. diginut already said it. TA-forum is a fucking old technology. in fact i think i dont should hang around that much more, i waste too much time here when i should be producing instead. i just find it easy to hang around and just chill out.

Posted by DJ Robby Rox on Apr-10-2011 19:17:

Yeh I think that must be the real issue then the fact that the technology is outdated.

But don't go disappearing for good lol. Wouldn't have anyone to make fun of my 16 z3tas anymore. On a serious note though I'd like to do something good for the forums myself I just don't know what would be useful.

I remember a while back I said I was going to do a bassline tutorial and I think instead I may do a generic "how to make trance track" thread. I think I'm at the level where I can make one that would be useful enough for both old and new producers alike. I'd make it real long too like 5 pages and do it really detailed. And Id try to avoid a lot of the boring repeated shit we hear on these forums.

I do definitely want to do something though I might start that today I think. I need to start contributing more myself.

Posted by Zak McKracken on Apr-10-2011 19:29:

yeah i dont really contribute anything myself, im just bitching when stuff is getting annoying. maybe its time to move on, theres really not much I can contribute with as my knowledge is pretty limited when it comes to both gear and music theory. at the same time i dont get much out from here as i know what i need to know, except some things that i cant afford now anyway. im just hanging out out of habit as there are people here with same interests as me. i think i contributed alot more when i was active in the promotion forum both as critic of others and promoter of myself. i should produce stuff and get back there.

You should realise that some of your questions actually contribute to th knowledge.

Take for example the thread about multiroom audio - thats probably the only time A-BUS has ever come up on here.

Also, I can count on one hand the number of times AES EBU has come up in these forums.

So it's not necessarily about giving advice, but sometimes about asking for it and that helps others,

Finally, I've heard your nortek and sec dev tracks - they're damn well produced. If you want to share something, then do a tutorial about one of them or how you produce in general.

oh, and stay away from the c0r. it's a swamp of timewasting, full of the "TA burn outs" that JBJ was alluding to earlier.

Posted by Zak McKracken on Apr-10-2011 19:57:

the aes ebu thing, is pretty interesting i might make a new thread about that one after reading up a bit more. what i mostly wonder about is what gear one would need between the computer and the DSP speakers, and what quality improvements it will give me compared to current setup. but ill make a separate thread about it.

shit this thread got pretty sidetracked, ill change the title to the second random thread

edit: when it comes to my old production theres really not much to say, they where made in Reason as part of a learning curve, i just tried every possibility with only one goal; to finish of what i started. it worked well and now im planning on doing the same with both Ableton and Logic, just to learn these apps fully.

Posted by DigiNut on Apr-10-2011 20:14:

If you've got a specific (not generic) complaint or suggestion, please post it in here.
