Dunno Vestax Mixers

wot stores would ppl suggest r good places 2 go & check out Vestax mixers. I want to check out these three:

PCV 175
PCV 275
PCV 07 Pro

ne1 got a ruff idea of how much these cost ? I'm going to be buying my dex/mixer early next year but need to get out and start looking at gear now as I won't really have time towards the end of the year.

I'm a noo-b but want to get a mixer that is easy enuff to learn on but also has good EQs to keep the learning curve up once the basics r under my belt. Am interested in trance, house and some DnB.

Cheers

Two of my friends have the PCV170A (is the one Digweed uses in Groove ) and have had no problem. The 170 has been superseeded by the 175 so I'd assume it's at least as good as the 170. I think another of my friends has the PCV 07 Pro and if I remember correctly it only has 2 EQ's wich doesn't suit me personaly. But if it were up to me I would get the PCV175. I think it costs roughly $900.

hmmm 900$

r there ne mixers worth considering similar to the PCV 175 ? perhaps in the Numark range ?

I got the PMC 03A. It's basicly the PCV 003 without the new fader. It set me back only $370 and is good for as much as I want to use it for exept that it is missing in the EQ department.
If you looking at the bigger ones the PCV 175 looks good to me, if I had any more money I'd get it in a snap.

out of curiosity, ne idea what the 275 would set u back ?

Tak - did u look @ nething in the Numark range of mixers ?

the 175 looks like a goer 2 me. I'll ring some stores in the next few days and get some prices.

cheers

I didn't look too much 'cause the good boys at mills gave me a killer deal (at least $500 bucks off the lot). I did look around all the shops in Perth and the Numark's seemed too expensive for me, so that kind of killed my curiosity.

My advice is to bargain them down...ALOT. Whatever you choose to get.

i checked out the storedj website and it has the 175 listed @ something like 995$.

looking at some of the other mixers they have there seems that an 'average' price for a mixer is somewhere around the 650$ mark. I might need a bit of time to absorb those sort of prices

btw I noticed that the same website didn't stock any Gemini dex. ne1 got any good sites in OzLand (pref in Melb) that thye know wtock Gemini dex. I am interested in the PT-2100

Try looking at some of the Beringer mixers. I know they are not as good as pioneer, stanton and vestax, but i have use them for a good 6 months now and they are really good. The one I have VMX-300 is a 3 channels mixers with beat counters, and a choise of stereo/split monitoring. They are priced $499 RRP but I got them for $399

ive got a pmc170a, had it for about 8 months now (my first mixer) and couldnt be happier. the only thing i dont like about it is that the eq knobs are rather close together, which makes playing with the eq's a little tricky at times.

Posted by BJeT on Aug-18-2002 12:02:

how much did it set u back kyle ?

Posted by kyle on Aug-18-2002 22:16:

i got it in a package deal, im not 100% but i think at the time they retailed for about 850-900 and i got it for about 700 or so.

I know you asked about vestax mixers but you really should have a go with a few others as well, go into a few stores and try what they have. CC's light and sound has a great range (in south melb) they have a website too. Have a look at the range of A&H mixers they have, and possibly the Rane mixers. They also stock a big range of not as good mixers (gemini/numark/etc) but i think if i was getting another mixer i'd save up enough to get the bottom of the range (Xone32) Allen & Heath, I think there just a lot better built and well layed out. I like the effects on the pioneer DJM600 but the eq nobs arn't very smooth, and the slider nobs are crap(IMHO). At home i use a Gemini PS-626pro which is pretty well layed out and has a great cue system but build quality just isn't there and it's pretty much falling apart, it now randomly decides to only work in mono (left channel drops out) which can be fixed by switching power on and off, which to me sounds like plain bad enginering and workmanship.

Christ, if the 175 is gonna cost ya 950, stuff it and buy the 275.

The 275 has an rrp of 1200 here in Aus, but Derringers here in Adelaide are selling them around 980 - you can buy and get it shipped (possibly free). Other places are also selling the 275 at similar prices, you just have to search around and be prepared to haggle.

Many people on TA have the 275 (myself included) and love it to bits (me included). It really is one awesome mixer, the PCV faders are top of the line (better than VCA), Its just one great mixer, built like a brick shithouse.

I just bought a PCV-175. A really good mixer IMO, but it's nowhere near a $900 pricetag. I paid $299CDN for mine, however, I got quite a deal, and the normal price was $400-$450 CDN. Good EQ, kills, an great crossfader. However, it doesn't have a bunny or hamster switch, which'll hurt if you wanna do a little improv scratching, unless of course you set the tables on the opposite sides. The lack of ability to adjust the fader curve is also a slight knock. The monitoring on the headphones is pretty decent, but I seriously don't understand their 'pre fader listen' feature, I have no idea when it'd ever be useful. Also, when adjusting the EQ, it'd be nice that those adjustments were audible on the monitor output, cuz if you're mixing in a shitty club on a bad spot on the floor and are forced to mix with just the headphones it'd be a very bad idea.

The pcv-275 is the next gen of the exact same mixer. Basically the same features, and slightly diffferent placement of the knobs. Oh, the third channel doesn't have kills. But it can the the pre-post effects for your [if you have one] FX mixer. I was gonna get one of these, until I found out it's almost just an excuse to charge me more money for the same thing. Price tag at retail when I was out looknig was $700-$800 CND.
