Demdike Stare

In my opinion one of the most interesting acts to surface in the last few years. My favorite of theirs is this one. Anyone else digging the haunted sounds?

This to me just sounds like a more sample-based version of the Lovecraft-obsessed industrial/dark ambient sounds that guys like Flint Glass, Tzolk'in, Werwolf Ensemble (sic) and co have been making for years. But then that comparison is only based on hearing this one track.

This stuff's pretty cool if you don't mind the relentless bleakness, but it's hardly summertime music.

Interesting sound indeed. Thanks for the heads up.

agreed with system-j. i can't even listen when the sun is shining like it is right next to me.

I stumbled over them a few days ago when the Modern Love catalogue got on Beatport kinda cool stuff.

Definitely one of the most exciting artists I discovered recently. Highly versatile, sometimes even to the point of unfocusness. Some of the tribalish, sample-heavy stuff on Symbiosis recalls ISDN-era FSOL and haunted stuff The Caretaker. Still, the overall sound is really modern and fresh.

Still haven't checked out Forest Of Evil, though I'm certainly buying Tryptych.

Forest of Evil is satanic

I like this quite a bit, it's very, very Thrill Kill Kult-ish, only missing Groovie's crooning.

It's very vacant.

They are far more interesting when they strip things down and dive into horror head first like this. Forest Of Evil leans a bit too much towards the traditional dub techno that Modern Love has been knocking out for years now for my tastes.

Still, why nobody has booked these guys for a proper forest rave yet is beyond me. You could hardly find a more fitting soundtrack.

I dunno, I saw Dead Voices On Air live somewhat recently. Left a lot to be desired of paying to stand around with other people.

i listened to all 10 minutes of that. and i just cant see whats exciting about it at all. i dont know when you would listen to this music or what it is supposed to achieve... then again, i feel the same about all ambient music. just one thing ill never understand

Well I don't believe that 'exciting' is what it's trying to achieve... but I do understand the 'summer' comments - it's not music you can just throw on at any moment, you have to be in the mood to let it take you somewhere very specific.

i guess im just not built that way. the only thing i ever really feel like listening to no matter if im pissed off, happy or what, i always like listening to heavy music.. industrial hardcore and stuff

Demdike can do it all, they have such a wide range...really masters of their craft. Easily one of my favorite artists.
