Define trance?
What exactly is trance? I've heard all kinds of answers such as emotional music, whether sad or happy, and music with 130-150 bpm.. so what is your definition of trance?
a state of mind.
Terry Schiavo
Best way to explain is by example:

Old/Original Trance: A half-conscious state characterized by an absence of response to external stimuli, typically as induced by hypnosis or entered by a medium.
Trance Nowadays: 7-9 mins of boring breakdowns and bass/fart hunt in every track, wich obviously has nothing to do with the definition of the original one.

A style of EDM that supposedly has the trance effect to it. Trance is dead, then.

Bastardized version of techno music.
The one common feature of almost all trance is a repetitive bottom end characterised by a 4/4 kick drum, largely unsyncopated percussion and a simple and rapid bassline, as well as plenty of melodic content.

To me still synthesizer music with a disco beat. That's also how I described the music I liked 20+ years ago.

Just another definition in a row of similar meaning ones, but here i go:
Trance is for me is house music with a faster beat, more and complex melodies and hopefully much richer harmonic content.
