Skrillex's Setup

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0MIxoM_o_8

Heh heh. What good is gear without good ideas, huh?

Posted by Richard Butler on May-04-2011 11:03:

Apar from the sheer enjoyment of collecting and using gear for it's own sake, I'm more and more comming round to the notion you can make world beating tracks with a laptop and headphones as long as your imagination runs free.

Thinking lately that the hardest resource to come by is imagination - my ceases up on me most of the time.

I think so too Richard. I also find it that the more stuff and gadgets I try to use, the harder it is to make something good.

I think its easier to be creative in a fish bowl than in the ocean.

Yes Fred, I keep finding this. Too many options leads to worse decisions in my own case. Also I find I forget important things when I have a wall of options.

I have some soft synths which have this selling point that you can layer many sounds all at once, which is fine, but honestly you can do just this by having say 6 instances of cuabse standard synths, but with more simplicity and precision and a proper flow in my mind of what is doing what (no lfo buried deep in a sub menu of a mega synth).

I'm never going to crit people who love gear, I love gear, but I personaly find I get bogged down with too much.

Posted by sot on May-04-2011 13:50:

the main thing people keep forgetting to understand is you either got it or you don't. no matter what gear you have, you will make due with it and do something great pending if your talented or not. gear won't do anything but just get in the way of making good music. creativity lies within you, it's up to you to find it

ive deleted everything on purpose. feels great, doesnt miss a thing. burned out a dvd with all my finished tracks as wav and gave to my parents to keep lol. this place can burn to the ground and the only thing that would hurt me is the loss of my vinyl.

Sounds like that old BT chesnut; studio execs breathing down your neck, work still not finished so "....er, my computer was stolen!".

And let's face it. What's more underground than a stolen & leaked dubstep track?

Pretty clever marketing if you ask me.

I agree. And he came from a huge mainstream background. Personally, I don't find anything special about his music. Seems like he's just doing the same thing he was doing when he was making emo music, appealing to the lowest common denominator marketing niche listeners. Teeny boppers.

Lol, oh the things people say. skrillex's signature sound was created by reconding real growls from bears, cayotees and pitched was transposed.bout 4 weeks to record then the actual processing with hundreds of growsls stacked a sent trru ahoy 3o effects.
