Hi All, I posted this yesterday but promptly realised something went wrong in the render for some strange reason. It's been a while since I've posted any sets so thought it was about time I made a new mix. Again, mixed and recorded with the pacemaker, I trek through some of my favourite deep, brooding and melodic tracks from over the last few months.

Nice one, this was interesting. The thing I appreciate about you as a DJ is how hard you obviously dig. The artists in your sets, and music recommendations you make in other people's threads are often reflective of this. I knew pretty much every artist in this particular tracklist, but there were still a few curveballs. Honeysmack, for example. Assuming it's a recent track, I had no idea he was back producing again.

The track selection was pretty nice. I enjoyed the prog-psyish track which I think may have been the Luke Porter remix. There was also a big piano breakdown towards the mid section which worked very well. It reminded me of one of those Jason Porter old-school sets (Trellis, I think), where he has that massive breakdown midway and completely changes the shape of the mix. Yours did that, though not so dramatically.

Mixing wasn't up to your usual standard, but was still pretty good. How exactly does a Pacemaker work? Do you have to pre-stretch/analyse the tracks somehow, or does it just pick up on the beats automatically?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I actually thought you were going to write this one off, either way I appreciate the feedback. I'm not gonna lie, I've been struggling for a while to nail a solid mix and you're right about the mixing here, it's pretty patchy.
This does tie in with you're question regarding the pacemaker, while it's a fun and useful device to play with it get's cumbersome to mix with at times as you have to control everything with one main touchpad, the tracks are analyzed by the computer software before they get transferred to the device, but even so sometimes the tracks drift wildly.
I originally posted this thread the render came out all wrong, some of the transitions were completely out of sync and it wasn't the way I'd mixed the tracks?? It's the first time I've notice that happen and just hope it doesn't continue to be a pain in ass. At the moment though it's the only thing I can record a proper mix with, I mean I could have done it in live, but playing dj sets on ableton just doesn't feel right to me. I mainly just wanted to get a new mix out of some tracks I've been enjoying over the last few months, because it has been a while I just ran out of patience with myself.

Btw, that Honeysmack tune is from 2008 I believe.

Hey thanks for checking it out. It's a pretty dark and eerie track when compared to a lot of the acid techno from the late 90's he's known for. It's actually the first track I've come across from him for years.

Cheers guys. As much as I like these tunes, it's definitely not my best mix, so be as brutal as you like.

There was a couple times where the mixing was obviously not so great, but overall it wasn't terrible. Some of the tunes weren't my cup of tea, but the great majority were enjoyable and I hadn't heard any of them before, so that was nice. Overall I found the mix very enjoyable. Not as good as your Acid House or Downtempo mix (two of my favorite mixes I've downloaded from TA, actually), but still very good

Thanks for listening and taking the time to reply. I kinda wish I hadn't been so hasty in posting it, and taken the time to really get it right because I know I can and have done much, much better. I think the only transition that I would be proud of here was from Black Keys into Homecoming.
One of my goals is to nail a really tight, smooth set with the pacemaker, have yet to do it and believe me it's a challenge.

I liked this mix a lot, Teez... although others have mentioned some hiccups with the mixing, there was only one time when I really noticed, somewhere in the early part of the set (couldn't tell you the songs though). As expected of you, there's some deep crate digging going on in here, I wasn't too familiar with many of these tracks (aside from Black Keys). Plus, things had a deep and chuggy, "suck you into a vortex" appeal, much like a good Diggers set. Homecoming and I Think of You were the highlights of the mix for me.

The only thing that I didn't like in the mix was that Honeysmack song. Didn't care much for the track in general, and it felt extremely out of place with the rest of the songs.

But overall, I think this is gonna be one of those mixes that is timeless in terms of appeal... I could see myself going back to it for years, whenever I'm in the mood for some dark, trippy prog.

Cheers Luke, the review is much appreciated. I'm glad you liked it to mate. Still think I could have made it better, and you're right about the honeysmack tune sounding out of place, it's got some pretty horrible samples but that's what made it appeal to me and I'm quite a big fan of a lot of his older acid tunes. I didn't do a great deal of planning here which is apparent, but hearing that you think it has a timeless quality is one the highest compliments I could get and is one of my main aims when I make sets.

i've had this one the computer for way to long. skimmed through it a couple of times. had the occasional casual listens to some sections but not a full listen until yesterday. i liked it a lot. it showed a good range from you and there was really good sense of flow and direction and you built the set really well. nice one matey

Ahh thanks as always for taking the time to listen and comment Tony, I've got an even more recent mix I'll have to make a new thread for, although I'm still on a mission to make a seamless mix with this pacemaker thing, it's really damn hard.
