Arrow Favorite Oliver Lieb track?

This man is a true genius, you can't deny it. He has a true talent that pushed electronic music standards way up (then somehow everyone went superstar, rendering the quality irrelevant.)

After thinking about it for a while, Cosmos takes my vote. It's simply one of the best tracks ever made, in my opinion. Every element, sample, string, sound in this track is just perfect. It's one of those tracks you recognize in the first fraction of a second when you hear it.

Go on.

Never, ever going to buy into the hype that he's a "genius". He just made a lot of good tracks. He's also made plenty of shit and forgettable tracks down the years.

My favourite of his is the whole Into Deep album, but for an individual track it's really hard to look past Netherworld (Jules Verne Mix).

That(what I said) was, of course, exaggerated a little. I do admire his tracks a huge lot, though.

Instantly hooked when I heard it on Tall Paul's Headliners 01 CD

LSG - Train Of Thought 1.1 :

Love the distortion in this track and the uplifting pads. It's probably not his most technical put man it works for me.

Love 'em. His tracks were so easy to distinguish, he had that magic touch. Some tracks were so minimal and they would just suck you in; so trancey and yet very simple when you break them down. My favorite would seem pretentious but kills on a club system. His S.O.L. moniker had some nice tunes like: Quantensprung and Pollenflug.

Definitely Into Deep is my favorite album, but for single song I'm torn between Netherworld and Lithium (Oliver Lieb Remix).

As I said in my TA Classics Mix post for this month, this song really epitomizes trance for me.

I totally buy into him being a genius, though. Not everything he touches is pure gold, but a huge majority of it is, imo. His remixes of Dreamstate, Hope, Kaleidoscope, Love Stimulation, Air 2000, and others are all amazing; not to mention his own products like Everlast, Into Deep, The Black Album, Netherworld, Hearts, Hidden Sun Of Venus, Paragliders, Run, Amanita Muscaria, and tons more.

I have the vinyl of this. The B-side 'Madras' is so dark and chunky. The Ambush - Everlast was such a funky trancer.

Really hard to pick one track that's better than all his other productions as he had so many brilliant ones. He had some shit ones and forgettable ones too but he's still definitely my favorite producer.

L.S.G. - Wrong Time Wrong Place from Rendezvous in Outer Space. Maybe. I've changed my pick three times already. Impossible task. Rendezvous in Outer Space is definitely my favorite album of his as it's by far the best album of all albums I've ever heard. Absolutely amazing stuff. One of the few EDM albums that make sense to me. Not a single bad track and it's not just a compilation of tracks and even though it's "mixed" it doesn't bother me one bit but actually makes the album better. Which is something I generally hate in artist albums.

I see Syntonic already mentioned it, but yeah, this is my pick:

Do geniuses not make mistakes? Do geniuses not have periods where their genius desserts them?

I thought these were requirements to be labelled a genius.

Never fancied much of his work, my fav track from him is probably this one.

My point was that I think he made a lot of good tracks, but relatively few great tracks. Most of his music seems tasteful, credible and "proper" so they're easy to like, but few of them have that spark of genius.

whoever claims lieb not to be a genius of edm is either deaf, dumb or just jealous and tries to put everyone else down to try to raise himself. knowing you from earlier post i would suggest the latter. you truly have some issues.

i cant pick a favorite track of his but the black album is the best album ever made, in any genre.

even though junios vasquez remix is alot hotter:

its too bad a certain local message board does not exist anymore.

they booked lieb a few years back at an after hours here and it was the definition of epic fail. People were so upset at how bad the set was that they bashed him mercilessly online....then he started trying to defend his artistry online and got raped.

easily one of my top 5 worst nights ever, but the internet lulz with him crawling away with his tail firmly planted between his legs was priceless.

Posted by Zak McKracken on May-12-2011 20:40:

was it because he didnt play his 20 year old tracks but something new instead? some crowds are really useless. he was here for halloween two years in a row recently and aparantly both nights was awesome. it was recorded too, great sets both of them but northing like the stuff he is known for. artists evolve, you cant expect them to be the same all through their careers. except superstar djs like tiesto and armin. no progression at all.

Posted by Zyklon_Jay on May-12-2011 20:43:

it was just a night of garabge music, garbage mixing, and just overall garbage.

so genius.

Posted by Zak McKracken on May-12-2011 20:46:

was it a dj set or a liveact or what? he is really not a dj though. havent experienced him live myself so i cant know whether he is completely into his own ass doing hiw own thing ignoring the crowd but the sets ive downloaded are great nevertheless. but that doesnt really help if the club expected 90s trance and he played minimal. i blame the bookers and promoters if it was a fail, the probably promoted it as a trance night?

i never seen lieb dj, but i remember reading somewhere that he spun a few years ago in england at some club and above and beyond and a bunch of other big trance guys were booked in the other room, and he was playing with other trance acts in his room...he said the crowd was all clueless music heads who just wanted to hear "candy trance" and he dont play it

that was the last i ever heard of a lieb review...i know production wise he went the minmal/techno route. its possible that he spins more of that sound instead of trance and his productions

"Centurion" is my favorite track.
