Progressive Trance (Jochen Miller-ish?) WIP

ProgTrance by tilda140

Not sure what I was going for here, but it came out very trancey and pretty groovy IMHO. Kind of a dark, end-of-worldly chord progression. Sounds kind of like J.M. to me. CC welcome.

*Okay was getting cut off around 2:00, full thing is up now.

As a whole it's not my thing, but I quite like the way you've played around with certain elements, particularly the gritty feeling to the drums. That's a rather nice lead too, I like how it evolves throughout. Well done.

The song is good, its just that your breakdowns are kind of empty and way too long, consider fixing that. Also your song needs more tension to it, when it builds up again from the breakdown it doesnt really feel like it has any more energy to it, consider adding more snares and hats to it to fix that. Good luck

Worm Popper

its a little slow for my tast, however i did enjoy that one bit that came in 3:40 ish

Posted by Evolve140 on May-17-2011 06:25:

Thanks for checking. Although I can understand how empty the buildups are, even though they are undone it's somewhat intentional. I really like the silence, and bits of incompletion. The only thing I feel is missing are movements and good FX phrases, and those obvious parts I need to elaborate on. I'm loving this track, and will post what's next as soon as I work on it more. I does need some proper form.

definately has potential. Really like the melody.

Really digging your work lately, and I like this too. I personaly enjoy the stripped back nature of it. Great bass - very groove laden and quality main motif synth throughout, I'd buy your shit.

Like you say, could now be finished off with some cool fx etc.

Posted by DLovas on May-17-2011 20:24:

i take back what i said, i very much like this track - out of curiosity what equipment did you use in its production?

Posted by AlexChilcott on May-17-2011 22:38:

Not really my style of choice, but this is a nice track nonetheless. I agree about the buildups -i think the silence is great, and suits the track. It's great when you play that little riff at the end of the silence. Gives you (the listener) a chance to really listen to the synth by itself. Not sure if that'd be how everyone reacts or just trance producers, but still, I like it

Just got to the chord progression, nice and original. Agree, it could use a few FX, but don't go cluttering it! It's beauty is in it's simplicity.

Alex

I used my friend's Ultrasone DJ-1 headphones, Ableton 8.1.1., Sylenth, Jupiterv8, and various samples. No VST effects, all in the box Ableton., and I have a Dell XPS M1530.

anywho glad ya like it

Nice! Thus just goes to prove that hardware doesn't mean good all of the time - keep it up and also I suggest getting some sort of synth arpeggio goin in the background to fill up the space a bit - up to u tho

left you some kind words via my new sc collab account that i'll be whoring out.

as for constructive criticism, i'd work on really making it a bit more grooving. feel like with that bassline, the percussion could be more driving to really make it feel dirty.

the track comes together very well as it is, it just needs to be more powerful all around

Posted by 5oundbite on May-18-2011 16:55:

realy liking this, as mentoined before it has potential.

i recommend to make the kick and the bass a bit fatter. i would definitely buy this track if the mix was a bit fatter

Posted by Evolve140 on May-18-2011 21:45:

Awesome, thanks for the great CC guys. If I disassemble the temporary and basic bussing and redeploy my usual FX/plugin chain on the new bus, it should sound a lot better/fatter/warmer. I'm very pleased the main idea is there and that items such as the lead are sitting in the mix right where I want them, so not having to worry about that will be nice. There is room in the mix for some mid snare, which I decided to leave empty at the time of rendering because I couldn't get it just right, and I didn't wan to just drop a sample in there for the sake of doing so. That one clap sample isn't really filling up the mix the way a good clap/snare should. So these are my considerations with this one. Perhaps some misc. percussion sounds to help the phrasing, but nothing too overwhelming.

No, I think its those headphones. Those headphones are the key.

Nice melo, but still a WIP.

Posted by Storyteller on May-19-2011 13:27:

And the real Storyteller disagrees with the beatflux. Well done, sounds quite good. I'd prefer a bit less pumping on the kick and perhaps a bit higher bpm. Well done either way. Great vibe and practically done if you ask me.

What do you mean?

Posted by EddieZilker on May-19-2011 23:42:

Very cool, Evol. I don't have any crit. Just liking this and looking forward to the finished product.

Edit: Just to say this definitely has a sound of its own that's quite original. I sincerely hope you finish this because I think it's already got that "holy shit, I have to ask the DJ who this is so I can snag it" vibe.

Posted by euphoria on May-20-2011 19:22:

volume is a little low compared to the last few tracks i heard.

Posted by Evolve140 on May-21-2011 11:46:

Super stoked you guys are digging this, won't let you down on this one. Not going to worry about labels or anything on this one, not like it matters revenue or commercially wise, ha! Gonna finish it up and straight to release. Some diverse feedback on this one, going to do the right thing here.

Few words on this, yes I'm def. adapted to the profile of these cans, and have referenced back with car stereo and stuff like that, so over time it just gets better.

Love the melody when it comes in. Really nice chord progression.

Not a lot else I can say other than it does need additional percs, at least in the later stages and more FX etc to tie it all together. Break is a bit sparse as well. I'm certainly not advocating that you crowd the mix but it does need extra in its current state.

I do like that melody
