Ok - how the heck do I make a remix I have no clue

Someone please assist me with this - are remixes made with elements of the original song? Are they made from scratch? I have no idea and I'm new to this - also what is the difference between a bootleg and a remix and a remake? thanks

a remake is when there are no parts and everything is done from traktor scratch. A remix is when you punch someone in the balls and say remixxx. jk but really a remix is when you have the original parts and place them different areas then they were previously placed or you can alter them yourself and a bootleg is when shit i forgot

an official remix is done by an artist using original samples, loops, midis, and pieces of the song and made into their own song.

a bootleg just means a remix that is unofficial. this could mean the producer of the bootleg just sampled the original and created his own song out of that, or that they were given the chance to remix a song and didn't make the cut onto the actual release. or that they didn't win the remix contest for it and decided to put it out for free etc. etc.

Trust me - search how to remix a song on google - you get shitty shitty results.

P.s. It's google and YouTube "are" your friends (the plural of friend) maybe google some lessons in grammar.

Thanks to the rest of you - so how would someone like me be able to pick up elements of the song - say I want to sample only a certain synth lead - I would have to obtain that from a source no? Or I could filter out the bass? Thanks again for the replies.

you'd have to either find a point in the song where only that specific instrument plays or like you said filter out the other frequencies (wouldn't yield very high quality results) - or get the parts from the artist themself. or, recreate the melody and use a similar instrument
