How often do you practice?

It used to be that I would spin at least an hour every day...but lately only about a few hours a week

i think i need to get on the ball again

i dont want to be left behind by all you guys

Too much music, not enough time....?

Does anyone feel that they have so much music, but don't really know a majority of it?

I find that I have music to have music and I don't really get to know my tracks enough to mix them nicely with ohter tracks. Please help!!!

I practice several hours a day. Thing is I dont consider it practice. Its too fun!

Man dont force yourself to spin. When i first got tables i spun on average of an hour a day sometimes more. Now I spin sometimes less then 20 mins a day. It all depends on how im feeling, I work a lot and spinning after a long day or work isnt very appealing at times. Ive gone entire weeks without spinning, its no big deal really.

i try to atleast spin a hour a day..it keeps the doctor away.

I spin, not as much as i would like. I work 45 hours a week minimum, sleep about 42, and the simple act of preparing for work, and eating, keeping up the house, etc, takes another 50 hours..

so that leaves about 4 hours of free time per week! ouch.

so, yeah, i don't spin that often, like once a week.

BUT, i listen to trance all day. to the person who asked about not knowing your records.. i suggest that you listen to them. listen to them, till you are sick of em. even if you aren't mixing them, just but them on, while you do something else, like for example wash the dishes. then listen to the intro and outro of each track, and memorize them.

or, even better, record them, the listen to the recording. that way you don't wear out your vinyl and needles.

I used to spin at least 8 hours a day back a couple of years (this even costed my one year at university, I quit uni since then to study for sound engineer), but lately because of school and all kinds of other events, I haven't spun seriously for about 5 months (except for gigs).

I really want to, but the time I come home, I'm really exhausted.
Worst part is in the vacation I even have more work...

Consider you guys lucky!

during the school year I spin for about 8hrs/wk, on the weekends mostly. if I'm working on a mix, more like 16. =) now it's summer, but my tables are sitting in storage in nyc. =(

i think the best feeling is coming home from the record store w/ a bunch of new records and mixing them on a loud system at home. as for knowing your records, just listen listen listen...mix mix mix...that's all you can do. and take notes if u want...they help, but i'm too lazy to. hehe

not as much as I should or would like too. Damn school work.

Posted by DJ-Kuza on Aug-13-2002 12:21:

Not half as much as I should. Way to much to do with work etc.. and by the time I'm chilled out and feel like it, it's to late and the neighbors would complain.

DavidScott: I"m with you 100%, I don't know half my records intro or outtro. I buy way to much for the amount I practice. It wont' matter much if you sort them right. You dont' have to know your records if you spin properly.

Posted by DJDavidScott on Aug-13-2002 14:09:

DJ-Kuza: I hear you on this one. It doesn't seem to matter what I feel, I still get more music everyday and spin what fits and what I feel. It's all in the numbers. If you really think, you know what is coming up next in the track!

cheers!

I used to spin about an hour a day but now i just spin whenever i feel like it. Works out to be about 3-4 days a week for about an hour. Ive gone weeks without throwin down, its mostly cuz i have other hobbies and am not super into spinnin right now. I just get sick of my records!! I guess im totally opposite, i know every record i have inside and out. I usualy dload the mp3 and listen to it for a while before i ever buy the vinyl..

BTW i record myself almost everytime i spin so i can go back and listen where i messed up so it wont happen again. If u dont have access to a recording device u should get one or hook ur tables to ur pc. You are your own best critic..

I spin whenever I get a chance. I try to wake up earlier so I can spin before I go to work but im usually too tired :P. But since I dont go to college right now, I have the chance to a lot, and I can see my improvements week by week! I even amaze my self now!

Invisible Grin

I spin most of my free time (i have to stop a bit, i need life )

Posted by FuzzyGreen on Aug-13-2002 19:25:

I practice for about an hour every day. I used to practice 2 hours everyday when I was first learning, but now I'm starting to get sick of my records so I only spin a small hour set about 5 days a week. A lot of times I would rather spend my time producing.

Posted by mute79 on Aug-13-2002 19:38:

well since i'm working i'm lucky if i get to play 5-6 hours a week, thats including weekends... ugh!

Posted by mettkea on Aug-13-2002 20:50:

I usually spin once a day for like an hour during the summer. During the school year I spin when i get a chance. Usually on a day of a house party, that im spinning at, I will spin all day so i don't sound like retard when I hit the decks!!

Behold, my arse.

i used to practice like 3 or 4 days a week, but my brother broke my turntable

Posted by capricorn15 on Aug-14-2002 00:22:

i spin for like 2 hours at least 3 times a week, just for fun, or to record, find new transfers i have never done before
