Is There A Way To Enlarge An Image Without It Getting All Choppy And Fuzzy?

Hi, I am trying to make some picutres bigger that I downloaded, (I am using a program called "Paint") And when I try to enlarge the picutre it gets all fuzzy and choppy and stuff and I can't really see the picure anymore. So I was wondering if someone could please tell me how to do this? Is there any other programs that can do this?

Also, when I save the picture, I right click and "save picture as" Does this have anything to do with why it get messed up? Is there another way that I should save it? (Just adding this incase it helps people figure out what I'm doing wrong=)

Another thing: The way I'm making the picture bigger might be the wrong way too

Basically, no.

I'm not sure how much u know about graphics and displays etc, but basically everything is composed of tiny little dots, called pixels. A small picture (eg this smiley face ) is 15 pixels x 15 pixels. Thus there's 225 coloured dots in there. When you stretch it with something like Paint or Photoshop, all it does it is take the dots and make them larger.

What the program does is the initial 225 dots to approximate what the image would look like if it was originally 100 x 100 pixels. That's why it's fuzzy - the computer doesn't know exactly where to put definite lines and colour changes etc. When resizing an image, all I can suggest is to keep the dimensions the same so the image won't be stretched out of proportion.

So basically, when you see in movies like Enemy of the State, people using computers to first enlarge a still image, then hitting a button to magically "enhance" it, making the previously illegible numbers/words readable, its just BS. The information simply isn't there.

Ah I remember that movie. If I remember correctly, they actually had the ability to change the angle of the picture that they had taken as well, to see what he was carrying in a bag. Total BS.

"Enhance that image for me. More. Now tilt it 30% counter-clockwise"

Allright, well since a already made a thread about this, I might as well ask this question too.

Allright the pictures I have are small, and when I try to make them bigger on the computer what I said in the first post happends. But is there a way to print them bigger? Without all the fuzzyness happening? That is why I wanted to make the pictures bigger in the first place, so I can print them bigger. (Hehe, I should of said this in the first place=)

Sooo is there a way to print pictures bigger without them becoming all fuzzy, etc?

what i do is take the image in lage it to about 5x bigg than you want it ... blur it then set it to the size you want and i dosent look so coppy... its not perfect but it works

yea that was total bollox. lol. they wanted to see what was in his bag which was round the other side of him. Load of crap. i dont even think the dumbest of people bought that Tiesto is Gay!! anyone agree?

I'm not sure about this but I think that paint isn't advanced enough to complete such actions succesfully. I mean that photoshop is better for enlarging a pic. When I do it in paint, I get the fuzzy big pixel pic. When I do it in photoshop using free transform, you see also see it, before you have applied the transformation. Cause when you apply photoshop makes a correction or something. This could be better maybe, but it doesn't deliver the sharp result of your original small pic...
