Calgary TranceAddict wishlist

We've been pretty spoiled in Alberta the past 6 weeks, with more good shows coming up.

Who do you think our promoter friends should bring to town next?

My picks:
Arty
Matt Zo
John Askew

Not to sure when the last time he was in Calgary was, but regardless Id love if Paul van Dyk went to Calgary, Id make the trip up for sure. Likewise if ATB did.
Other on wishlist.. Simon Patterson, Marco V.
Id throw on Schulz and Ferry but theyre both there June 30th and Canada Day, Im making the trip for both for sure lol.
John Askew would be cool too, I saw him last month in Montreal was great.

I totally agree with Arty & Mat Zo, my 2 faves.

Yeah there have been a ton of big shows lately, and a bunch more coming up (Schulz, Ferry, Cosmic Gate, Eddie Haliwell, etc).

Would love to see Simon Patterson, Mark Knight, Avicii and Arty.

Change my mind about Arty, saw him last weekend and his set totally sucked. One of worst DJ sets Ive seen. No flow at all, and full of cheesy vocal tunes. I counted at least 20 in the first hour of 2 hour set.

Menno de Jong, Paul van Dyk, Marcus Schossow, W&W, Andy Moor, Carl Cox, Leon Bolier

Also thanks for the great bookings for this september with Richard Durand, Simon Patterson, Sean Tyas and Marco V!!!!

I agree with this 100% Were you at Electric Zoo by any chance?

Someone really needs to bring Alesso and Dirty South to Calgary.

No, I saw him play the next day in Montreal, so I assume he played close to the same set that he did at EZ.

I didn't have an issue with his track selection, he couldn't mix to save his life. He knew it too. He looked very uncomfortable on the stage. It was total tennis shoes in a clothes drier.

Haha, this makes me laugh...gotta agree though. Also, once you've heard one Arty set you've pretty much heard them all. He barely changes the tracks and if its something new, it just cheese.

He had so much going for him the first few months this year, not sure what happend...I guess the attention got to him??

Posted by klm21 on Sep-28-2011 04:15:

Might be. Even when he first got behind the decks he gave off this attitude like he was the greatest. Yknow when someone is chewing gum but with their mouth almost wide open? He was doing that, kind of ignoring the crowd, which is fine I guess but then he put on his little earphones and put on an R.E.M. mashup haha. The DJ just on before him was playing really good hard banging tracks too and got me in the mood then once Arty got on it was like a WTF? moment, haha.
Agree about his set too, I looked up a few before I went to see him they seemed almost identical and likewise what he played was probably 80% same tracks/mash-ups.

He still does. He just can't dj at the moment.

Look at his releases from 2011 alone... Around the World, Zara, Kate. That is a career for some producers.

Just my opinion, he needs to get away from mashing up his tunes and just let them play on their own merit. Or play live like Giuseppe.

Personally I think he has lost a lot of steam he had originally in the year. He was the hottest name bare none in early 2011. Everybody was talking about him and playing his stuff especially during WMC/Ultra weeks. His ASOT500 set where he debut Around the World had so much buzz, I really enjoyed it too. He was a lot of peoples #1 pick for DJ Mag. A few months later his sets totally changed, went more pop house/mainstream/mash-up/cheesy stuff...total 360 from the first few months.

Judging from the trance forums, he's lost a lot of his original fans but I'm sure he's made just as many new ones if not more. I was one of those "original/early fans"...I guess that's what disappoints me. He's still a rookie in the game, can't be too hard on him...I'm sure he will only get better and higher in the rankings, as longs as he takes notes and understands he can improve in the DJ area.

BTW, Eco is amazing live, drops a lot really cool non mainstream stuff that makes you say "What was that!?!". I loved when he dropped "JPL - We Moved in Symmetry" in Edmonton last year! Jonas Steur is really good too, great production and great DJ sets...his Luminosity set this year is amazing.

Well have fun guys whoever goes hahaha

Andy Moor
John OCallaghan
Sied van Riel
John Askew
Menno de Jong
Markus Schulz

Any combo or trio of these would be amazing.

and please DONT book Benny Benassi again..

Any of you guys manage to get Avicii tickets?

They're going for ludicrous amounts on Kijiji, I managed to get a few but I have a bunch of friends that want them so I have to decide who I should sell them to

Posted by klm21 on Dec-03-2011 22:03:

Please bring lots of (good) trance to Frequency.. I dont want there to be a lineup full of cheesy electro house sounding stuff like Afrojack, or Laidback Luke type style..

2009, 2010 good stuff plus lots of nice lasers.. Hoping 2012 will be just as good. I dont make it to Edmonton too often but Im sure given the lineup is good Ill make the trip with a bunch of friends

I'm not a huge Afrojack fan, but he makes for a pretty wild party.

Really want to see John Askew in 2012 somewhere....

Posted by klm21 on Dec-25-2011 21:38:

Well.. pretty much what I feared about Frequency.. fuck, definitely not going this year!!

K, 2012 updated wishlist

Menno de Jong, Paul van Dyk, Sied van Riel, John OCallaghan, Aly & Fila, Sean Tyas, John Askew, Markus Schulz, Richard Durand, Giuseppi Ottaviani, Mark Sherry, Andy Moor, Bryan Kearney, Ummet Ozcan, Wezz Devall, Leon Bolier, Manuel Le Saux, Paul Webster, Jorn van Deynhoven, Simon Patterson, John 00 Fleming..

Carl Cox, Joris Voorn, Gary Beck, Alex Bau, Mark Knight, Richie Hawtin, John Digweed..

September event RAIN with Sean Tyas, Simon Patterson, Richard Durand was awesome, I wish they/someone would make a similar one again. Unfortunately I think the Calgary/Edmonton public is more into the cheesier commercial side..

hey- i know this is a pretty random place to put this, but my friend and i are coming up to calgary for the feb 10 show (Benny Benassi but i'd like to see Sander Van Doorn..lol) and i was wondering what it's like now? What's the venue like? and is it mostly 18 yr olds or is it a pretty good mix? My friend and i are 30, lol, and i haven't been out in years so i'm just currious. I don't know any of the calgary TA's. Also if we got stuck with an extra ticket do you think it would be easy to sell it at the show?
