The TA Scotch thread about Scotch
I intended this to be for single malts only, but if you have a particularly great blended, please share.
I'm currently working on a bottle of this:
Share your favorites and/or ones that you've been dying to try.

I'm working on this. It has very light delicate flavor and floral aroma. Highly recommend.
I also have a bottle of Ardbeg but I don't drink it very often. I'm not usually in the mood for heavily peated whiskey.

This guy is has lot of nice reviews, I also get a kick out of his accent.
Yeah I'm more of a Speyside, Highland fan. Taipan, have you had that or just want to try it? I've never had a Glenlivet that I particularly liked, but I think I've only had 12 and 10yr maybe.
Talisker 10
Talisker 18 (Killer)
Lagavulin 16, smoky son of a gun.
Lagavulin double distilled. Same as the 16, but without the strong alcohol taste. Taste like gold mothafuckas.
Oh and Laphroig has an oily taste, the smell of that scotch stays.

Glenfiddich is good. Not my favorite but their 12 year is a relatively cheap/good one.
Highland Park is decent for the price, but I'm not a huge fan of it either.
Brah you irish mang, you should be drinkin' some Jameson.

Haha Jameson is a staple for me. Scotch is for special occasions. Have you ever had Midleton?
I've never seen it in a liquor store here, but I brought a bottle back the last time I was in Ireland. So delicious. It runs about 150 Euro though. It's basically hand selected by the master distiller at the Jameson distillery in Dublin and every bottle is signed by him. I think they only put out a few hundred to a thousand bottles of it every year.
Jameson isn't anything special

| Originally posted by srussell0018 It's really not. I mean I love it, but Jameson is for drinking in large quantities. A good single malt is for sipping...or sipping in large quantities. That being said, I would take Jameson over Jack Daniels or Jim Beam any day. |
Gulping a single malt???
That's almost as bad as putting ice in it.
Give it a try. Buy yourself a good single malt nothing over 100$. Gulp it like a man. It's fantabulous.
And no gulping isn't as bad as adding the rocks.
I do like a water-back. Just a tiny sip after each sip of Scotch, ya know, to cleanse the palate
I was feeling rich about a month ago and bought a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue.
Really tasty stuff.
I've only had a glass of it once. Not worth $25 for a glass imo, but then again I don't really remember how it tasted. Glenfiddich actually makes a pretty decent blended scotch called Grant's for about $30-40.
I've been against blended all my life, but i've heared great stuff about the Walker blue. Should give it a try at a whiskey bar.
Descriptions of the blue Walker is requested, Alex.
blahblahblah fruity notes blahblahblah hint of smokey blahblahblah peat blahblahblah raisins. For the same price, you could get a single malt that would blow it out of the water.
If I had more money I'd likely drink more Scotch. I'm a big fan of those that I have tried. Of the various "entry-level" offerings, Macallan 10 is by far my favorite.
Macallan is a great choice. Try their 12. It's a very good one for around $60-70.

I've had this a few times before. Quite nice.

Srussell, try the McCallan 18 or 25 if you have the money. You'll notice the difference real quick compared to the 15, even though the 15 is great stuff. With Vodka I have my "go to" regular brand and my "I have guests and/or special occasion" brands. Same with the single malts.
I use Glenlivet 12 or Lagavulin 12 for the regular, and McCallan 18 or 25 for special occasion. I hear Scapa 14 (Orkney Islands region) is awesome too.
Never less than 12 years on those single malts
