How do I make this sound?

Hey guys ,

How do I create this sound from Ferry Corsten - Fire

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04Uu...feature=related

It sounds sort of like a boiler overheating. It starts at 30 seconds ends at 40 seconds, then starts at 60 seconds again.

Thanks for the help

sounds like a simple saw-wave synth in an upper octave that gets glissando'd/portamento'd. Maybe some lfo/gated effect in there to make it waiver.

*shrug*

get a mic and record a hot water heater boiling over or a kettle on a stove

That's exactly what came to my mind but I'm not able to come up with anything close

It sounds to me like a hardstyle screecher, did you try distortion on said saw wave and detune it a bit?

I'll try and see what I can come up with.

Yes. I tried some distortion but it didn't help much. I agree I think its definitely detuned. I tried messing around with a freq shifter and I got a bit of closer results with that but it's still not even close to the actual sound.

Just realized it's also in his song Rock Your Body Rock http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvnhTrY32B0

starts at 1:20

Now that I think about it I'm pretty sure he uses this sound in quite a few of his songs. Someone please help me figure out how to create this!!!

Sorry no audio example but I got pretty close by running a hi pitched strings sample through camelcrusher.

Try a sinewave with modulation on the symmetry - i could get a similar sounds with that - then just bend the pitch up/down

I reckon there's a bit of high pitched square in there and it's all running through some small room reverb to give it that metallic tinge.

I just tried that skyhunter and got 1000x closer than with the saw wave but it's still just not right, its like not clean enough or something I'm not sure how to describe it.

evo8 and tehlord guess I'll give those a try when I get some free time

Thanks for the thoughts help guys
