-- Different days...........
Different days...........
Ive been spining for about 5 months now and am always improving, but it seems that on some days I can beat match at all, but on others I hit everything bang on. Is this normal?? And will there ever be a time when I can match perfectly all the time??
Really need some motivation here cuz its really annoying and disheartening when I have these days..
Yep I get this in a big way
I havnt been mixing for long, but my mate has been at it for 1 and a half years, and he still occasionally has off days, I don't know hy either
I guess somet days you just concentrate better, you're more in the wide awake club, and then mix better as a result, all I can think of
after you start getting the real hang of beatmatching........those days when you think you cant match a beat....well you'll be suprised if you playback what you just spun how much better it actually is of your previous work
it seems hard to believe....i thought i was having a bad day mixin....well i recorded myself anyway...when i listened to it at work i could hardly believe how good it was. I guess i just had it in my head that i couldnt beatmatch that day...dunno...
i still have days where i dont think i can do anything right
its all part of the cycle i guess

TOTALLY...i've recorded a total of 3 CD mixes and each one is leaps and bounds better then the previous...but at the time, i thot it was the greatest thing. but yea, once u get past the days of on and off beatmatching, you'll level off...or so you think. Then you reach the pt. where beatmatching is second-nature and you just concentrate on the eqs and the actual transitions....
But the odd thing is, u just keep improving, bit by bit...in very unnoticeable ways, but u definitely do. All I can say is cliched, but true...PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE...the more hours you spend behind the decks, the better you'll get.
that's how my skillz are progressing, anyway.
However, i kinda think everyone has their off and on days....when i was recording my last mix, everything but one transition was spot on (beatmatching wise) from start to finish...when i tried to duplicate it to fix levels and wut not, it went to shit.
just how it goes i guess...
Every single DJ has these days. But as you improve you do not "blow up" as much when you have these days. This week I was off the boil for a few days, but when I go off now I just struggle to mix with the same smoothness and ease that I normally do. It still sounds good to the untrained ear, DJ's will hear it drifting more than usual.
But the feeling ou get when it returns to being as simple as breathing is superb. That should be enough motivation to keep you going.
I will repeat, practise, practise, practise. Don't overdo it on your off days, I find listening to how much the pros actually suck helps clear my head. Check out some Jules mixing and you feel instantly better, or go and see Dave Pearce live if it is really bad!

its all part of learning
i still get these days occasionally
it just depends on my mood and how into the music i am
also it depends if im forcing myself to practice, or if i had an urge to spin
its kind of funny though when you think about it
when i first started mixing... the mixes i thought were amazing on my 'ON' days are worse than the mixes i think sound like shit now on my 'OFF' days
the better you get, the more critical you are over your mixing
I noticed a lot of the times I think a mix is messed up, but when u listen to it later it sounds sweeet...I think it because you hear all of that xtra stuff in your headphones...
mostly it's all mental, but every day differs, every mix differs
