Religions (beliefs.of.lifE)
Okay a while back I started a thread regarding atheism... one which got some really pertinent ideas from some of the ppl here. As I have recently began studying more and more into the mythology of cultures and the afferent religions and beliefs (at this time I am studying Satanism), I thought of starting out something about.. well conceptions of misconceptions about what's these days become quite a hot subject.
So just post whatever U think of the subject of religions and their representants...
peace out! and believE!

You study Satanism? Just out curiousity or do you practicize it too? I think it's good that you study on these subject, to get to know more about the "invisible world". What's your belief? Or R u an atheist? In that case it is intersesting that you DO study satanism, because satan also is some sort of god (of the underworld).

according to him, Muhammad is the most influential person in history. With Jesus Christ being third.
the actual term for my belief is:
Atheist-Agnostic
and no i didn't make that up, there are two forums of Agnostic. Agnostic-Agnostic is for people who can't think very hard, imo.
why...erg...i've said it so many times it's hurt my head but if someone wants to know, just ask.
Weird how some of the people most interested in religion as a subject are atheist themself. I have a teacher who's dad was a minister and grew up studying the bible and such but now as an adult is an atheist. He knows all about the Catholic religion and has distinct and relevent reasons that he does not believe in it. I myself think people don't give enough attention to other religions beside their own. If they did this they could take the good parts of other religions and incorporate them into their own life but still keep their one main religion.

Well, I kinda meant 'learn from other religions'...maybe actually incorporating things from other religions might be too much. For example, one of the premises for the Budhist (sp?) is 'balance'...not too tight yet not too weak makes for the best.

Well a "gnostic" is one who professes esoteric knowledge (and there's a specific Christian connetation to all this I believe) so an "agnsotic" would be one who doesn't profess this sort of knowledge.
In modern parlance, an agnostic is one who doesn't know precisely what they believe in, or if they believe in anything or not (i.e. 50% of the population - "I believe in something, but I don't know what") whereas an atheist is someone who believes in nothing mystical at all in this sense.
If you are an "atheist-agnostic" davinox, either you are much more familar with etymology and semantics than I am, or you've created an entire new position that fuses the concepts of "uncertain belief" and "no belief" together in an unholy matrimony.

I personally think most religion is a buncha bs, i mean people try so hard to be perfect.....they are crazy in the head, two of my freinds have hardcore Christian parents who are all nice around people but can go crazy its really scary, and my friends are just rebels to them and to everything they dont want them to do......I especially hate whne people try to force religion on other people, like my parents who make me go to booooooooorrrrrrrinnnnnnnnggggg church sometimes, or the people that come by your door, my 2 cents, im personally Agnostic
agnostic Pronunciation Key (g-nstk)
n.
One who believes that it is impossible to know whether there is a God.
One who is skeptical about the existence of God but does not profess true atheism.
One who is doubtful or noncommittal about something
atheist Pronunciation Key (th-st)
n.
One who disbelieves or denies the existence of God or gods
This is an interesting thread!
I'm an atheist, but i was raised to be a christian. I started to watch Discovery channel at the age of 7 or so, and when one thing in the bible after another gets repelled, you start to think that too. I can't believe in something wich is not proved, and where all the evidence is against it. Christians are explaining the bible differently every time, because there's always some evidence against it, so they say you have to interpret it in another way.....again.
Even when there would be a religion that was proved to be true, with evidence and all, I wouldn't believe in it, because if we just had a world without religion, there would be al LOT less agression, most of the wars that are going on or are finisched, have been there because of religion, so I can't be one of the hypocrits who tell everybody to love your neighbour, and simultaniously kill everybody because they don;t believe the same thing!!
And as an atheist, I'm always curious in how religious people can even try to believe those things, because I can't imagine it.

"What is a religious mind ... one needs a radical revolution ... revolution is synonymous with religion ... I mean a revolution in consciousness ... so that the mind is capable of seeing what is true ... this is the way of religion. I think the real, the true religious mind does exist, can exist ... one can discover such a mind for oneself ... a mind that has gone beyond to discover what is true, is the true religious mind. I want to find out, through denial, what is a religious mind ... I feel that through negation one can find out what is true. So, we are going to inquire into what the religious mind is through denial ... surely, to find reality, to find God ... the mind must be alone ... a fearless state in which there is no death ... for a mind that is alone there is no death. It is really extraordinary. If you have gone into that thing you discover for yourself that there is no such thing as death. Such a mind knows what destruction is ... destruction is creation ... so for the religious mind there is no time ... it is only the religious mind that can be in a state of creation ... in this creation is beauty ... a religious mind has this beauty which is not the appreciation of nature, the lovely mountains and the roaring stream ... a different beauty with which goes love ... you cannot separate beauty and love ... and with them is passion ... one cannot go far without passion ... beauty can only be there when there is passion. The religious mind, being in this state, has a peculiar quality of strength ... so, the religious mind does exist ... it is apart from all human endeavours ... therefore a religious mind can receive that which is not measurable by the brain ... that thing is unnameable ... to live in this state is the true religious mind." for the record I am christian (not catholic).

How can someone else know what we will choose to do even before we do? God being a all knowing/seeing entity defeats the concept of free will. |

Just because God can see what we do before we do it, does not mean that we don't have Free Will. I think that the catholic religion has some strange aspects to it, and I really don't understand them. Some contradict their own lessons etc. So I choose not to follow the catholic way, or any other 'labled' way. I take in certain ideas from them, from the bible, and then interpret them mydslf, rather than being confined to doing what an institution is telling me based on how THEY interpreted them. Some people who go to church every sunday, pray the lords prayer every night, and so on, may not actually be REAL christians, but people trying to, in a sense, earn their way into heaven. you have to have an internal relationship with God, without feeling obligated to do what he wants. I realize how this religion can seem false to many people.. but I don't believe it is. Just actually think about your existence for alittle while.. Look at the millions of gallaxies in the univers, all the stars, planets, the earth. The complexity of the human body, the human mind... how can this just come into existance by itself? how is it possible that we are all living here, with an extreemly advanced civilization, if we originated from those little water cell thingys. when I look at this stuff, I can just see that it is the work of God. these are my views, respond if you disagree. |
Hehehee, I got such stick in High School from some of my classmates.
Get this, I r agnostic/athiest (in that I dont believe in a higher power, but something more like karma) and some of my classmate were (at least they believed so) very religious. I was in a Christian school.
So whenever there was a religious debate, and I'd air a scientific/objective view, I would get stick. I mean c'mon! My main cause for grief was this stupid cow. Considered herself to be oh so religious, yet had a child at 16 and goes out and gets pissed every week-end
I would use a simple statement like "So it's 'An eye for an eye' yet we must 'turn the other cheek' too?" This would get them riled up.
The bible is too contradictory for me. And a bit too far fetched for be to believe, as I have have read sci-fi books more believable.
If I can see some proof, other than a really old and long bed time story, then mebbe I will belive in something.
Right now, I believe in morals. Good things happen to good people, what goes around comes around.

I was raised be NOT a christian. My parents send me to a christian primary school (not that strict but okay). I don't seem to have any permanent braindamage from that time...
No but seriously, I am an atheist and I am happy I've got that experience with the christian believe. I've lost faith in the believe when I found out that there were no hard proofs of the existance of any god. Maybe also because I went to I public highschool.
And what I always say about the christians...
How can you trust in a book that has been written 2000 years ago or something. In the time ppl couldn't explain what something meant, so they pointed at a GOD.
(this is MY opinion okay, leave me in one piece)
God does exist.
And there is a meaning to life ..... aha

has anyone using the argument that gods made people do this or that, killing people etc etc ever taken into consideration the fact that God made Adam and Eve (going by the KJV) and gave them everything they needed. His first commandment to them was what? (only the original untouched KJV will say it as it is)
He said to them be Fruitful and multiply which in non shakespearean english means fuck and have fun (having sex was not why adam and eve left the garden)
God made man in his own image and in the image of god he made them ..... male and female
what does that say?
God is a trinity composed of himself, the holy spirit (his wife) and jesus his son.
God gave man his own choice and always has. He told him not to eat from the tree of good and evil because "if ye do she shall become as gods, knowing good and evil"
So what does he do, eve gives it to him to eat from and he did. There's mans quest for knowledge power and our inherent path of self destruction. (which we're doing just fine on)
Man has always made our own choices in history. For fucks sake leave god out of it
