Confused Rock Fans Outraged As Bob Dylan Goes Electronica

Rock Fans Outraged As Bob Dylan Goes Electronica

NEWPORT, RIAudience members at the Newport Rock Festival were "outraged" Monday when rock icon Bob Dylan followed up such classic hits as "Like A Rolling Stone" and "Maggie's Farm" with an electronica set composed of atonal drones, hyperactive drumbeats, and the repeated mechanized lyric "Dance to the club life!" "We came here to see the authentic Dylan, the one with the Stratocaster guitar and signature wild blues-rock band behind him," audience member Robert Hochschild said. "Then he walks out with these puffy headphones, some turntables, and a laptop? The guy's a Judas." When asked later about his musical transformation by reporters, Dylan said he had nothing to say about the beats he programs, he just programs them.

hypothetically though, would rock fans around the world actually get upset, if he played a concert with armin for example? or digweed? would that dissappoint people?

and vise versa, would everyone here get mad if bob dylan played at an electro show?

There would be a big difference between he (or anyone really) selling tickets to a show billed as an EDM set as opposed to selling tickets to what people believe to be a rock concert and spinning EDM, no?

What's great about this gag is how well it echos the outrage by fans over Dylan going electric at the Newport Folk festival

amazing way to put it!

For me personally, if i was going to a electro concert and bob dylan came and played rock music, i would have a heart attack, it would be the most epic experience ever.

So theoretically, people similar to myself that listen to electro(house, trance, etc...) listen to music out of the love for the DJ and music, and the kind of music it is allows for the people to be open to other genres, and value the DJs as much as we value the music....i guess rock would be more valueable to the music, and performance.

ofcourse this only applies to people who would actually get upset if bob dylan played electro (which i dont think alot of people would )

I have to disagree... if he played exclusively EDM a lot of his fans would be upset because they paid money expecting to hear the songs they love not something entirely different. Now if he did a full show and then an hour set after people may appreciate the experimentation.

Truuuue, I agree, I was looking at it from the experience of a nadia ali singing chorus to her song while avicii plays the track kind of performance, where, it would be a cameo, rather then the whole show dedicated to this. I thought the news article mentioned he played classics and then electro, i misread the 'set' part :P

But truuuue sayyyy

Did you see him at the Grammy's??

He could barely rip it up with his own song...

I saw him about four years ago and was really looking forward to seeing the legend perform. Unfortunately, it was the worst musical performance I've seen done by anyone whom I'm a fan of. His voice was awful and he was mumbling the lyrics. He seemed too old to be performing. The crowd didn't even try to bring Dylan out for an encore.

this is absolutely true. New directions in music are essential to keep an artists imagination and love for the music alive. However when playing concerts, it is very difficult to play a 2 hour set is composed of mostly newer stuff. People will definitely be disappointed.
