First Club-gig
Hello together.
I'm going to have my first gig at a club next friday night. I spin 90 minutes and I'm really nervous right now.
My question is what I must know before my Set. How to start, what to keep the crowd dancing and so on.
Please help me!
My advice is to play some energetic tunes in the beginniing (ie: crowd song, lethal industry, dj remy - pumped up) to get the crowd all rapped up than work your way to some uplifting stuff, it should get the crowd into a frenzy and they should dig yer set, always play with the crowd see how the crowd reacts to a song, if techno makes them dance more than trance than put on techno. always try to please the crowd this will get you more gigs at this club. remember its about the crowd, there the ones that paid money to goto it so try your best and please them.
i thougt about pvd - tell me why (pvd mix) at the beginning. what do you think about that?
Well as far as the actual tracks are concerned, I don't think you should take any particular advice, but just play the songs you want to. But starting out with a song most ppl in the club know seems like a smart thing to do
Maybe if you told us some more info about the type of club you'll be playing (audience) and your style....
the club is normally not a techno club. there is only a trance event in there. the crowd is not from the club. they come from everywhere.

You may think I am crazy but!!!!!!
Get fucking RIPPED!!!!
Reason??? You will forget about whats around you and only concentrate on what you are doing and not everyone else.
Try and feel the crowd??? FUCK NO!!!!! You are up there to share your style and tunes with people. If you get off the groove trying to impress people, expect a uphill battle.
Want some advice??? Know what first two or three songss you are gonna do, then freestyle from there. You don't want to fumble around when you step up to the wheels being a Virgin. You will look like one too if you don't have a game plan
Don't jump from style to style ie. Cosmic Gate to Airscape to Marco V.... Get it???? Don't give the crowd a Rollercoaster ride, give them one style one beat don't go all over the map!!!
FYI. My last set I had all odds against me. Imagine stepping up on stage and finding a Vestax PMC-05 SCRATCH MIXER!!!!!!! I threw on my first tune without even knowing where to plug in my Headphones!! I was asking everyone in sight how to operate this thing. But Geuss what???? Didn't matter because I didn't care who, what or where the fuck I was. I had a job to do. I was FUCKING LOADED and I didn't care!!!
In the end I pulled off one of the most stellar live sets of my life. The key is knowing your limits. Make sure you smoke a big Joint before you go on. A DEFINATE MUST!!!!

If this is your first gig, then chances are you will be the first dj to perform. This means that not too many people will be there when you first start and this also means that the club owner won't let you turn up the volume that much. Just go to any club anywhere and listen to the first dj spin. You should do a warmup set and not play the banging tunes that you oh so want to play because that is what the headliners are for. I would play good tracks, but don't make them high energy, especially in the begining of your set. Leave the energy tracks for the last 3-4 and then bring it down a notch with your last 1-2 tracks so that the dj after you doesn't have to keep climbing up and up right from the begining of his/her set. This is pretty standard dj etiquette and I'd say that the other djs opinion of your will count for more than the crowd's enthusiasm. Chances are they will have a resident dj there that will spin after you before the headliner or will at least be listening to how you spin you set/track selection etc. It is his opinion that counts the most because the manager relies on him to tell him if you are good or not. I would suggest that you find out when you are spinning and ask the manager/contact what to expect during your set.

well then, since the event is a long one, then you should through out a decently kicking set if you are second and a hard core jammin' set if you are last. I went to Whistle 3 last year and Anabolic frolic I believe was thrid to last, and dj micro was last. Very kicking sets and the crowd surprisingly had enough energy to dance throughout all the sets!!!
