What happened to this place??

I haven't been on tranceaddict in quite a while, only to find out the PDD is completely dead. How did this happen?

Mostly bots selling wedding dresses and credit card dumps.

It's Obama. Sadly, it's true.

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Jul-22-2011 00:31:

Still though, why hasn’t Q5 been in here to rail against obama’s failures?

Pretty dead. I do miss Magnetonium, Epicurus, Opus and Firestarter's posts and deliberations. Those were the days.

The New World Order has won! Apathy has consumed the masses. Everyone is drugged by their televisions, their smartphones, their internets, their micro-wave popcorns- they can't find time to care about thing things that are most important in life! Like raising a family and voting, etc.!

haha agreed, but the point is this place existed despite your cartoon for a number of years. i said in another thread its simply demographics- the 18-25 age group that used to post here simply grew up and had other things to occupy them.

True dat. Though I have 2 kids and still manage to check this place out, only to see how dead it is. Maybe that's because I have it bookmarked and it opens automatically every time I launch my browser.

That said, I was semi-serious with my Obama comments. His most adamant supporters on this board have been radio silent for a loooong time, and I assume it's b/c the Great Black Hope&Change has turned out to be anything but politics as usual, only I'd say I don't even think he's that good. He's a horrible leader and doesn't have any good ideas. He presents a utopian social vision and then expects a bunch of good-for-nothing congressmen to find a way to make it happen. People like Josh, who berated us with Barack Obama spoonfed bullshit haven't made a peep on this board in over a year and I can assume much of it has to do with not being able to get their feet out of their mouths to attempt to find a way to defend the indefensible. Better to lay low and not have to surface to face the ridicule. I miss Q5. I miss Opus. Fuck, I almost miss that Che Guevara retard that posted nothing but vile spite for so long.

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Jul-29-2011 03:56:

yeah, there is probably an element of that too. and i do agree, obama has been a disappointment (even to an outsider). however, i also think the level of political paranoia caused by bush and co died down somewhat once a new administration was elected, hence less posts here.

i would also like to take some small credit for mocking and berating the conspiracy theorists enough to have most of them leave for greener pastures. hell, i did get trancer-x banned after all

by 2007-08 they seemed to be the most regular posters in here

mostly i miss renegade and occrider; always had something to learn from them. arbiter and moral hazard still post in the COR occasionally though.

Posted by occrider on Jul-29-2011 04:49:

I still visit every 4-6 months . Obama really had no say in the matter I'm sad to say ... it's been more so a function of me moving to my job in ny and working all the time ... and I guess being 6 years outside of that 18-25 year old age bracket

Can't say I've been overly disappointed in Obama ... I've never had any delusions as to what he really was ... pretty much a centrist republican, which is what I am. Progressives who thought that he was going to be some kind of FDR reformer never really understood that his platform was never really hardcore liberal. Granted he's definitely a social progressive albeit at a slow pace (doma, dadt, etc.). But in other aspects he's anything but. Obamacare is nothing but Romneycare at large ... a republican platform (and probably more nonsensical than Bush's medicare part D). He's extended the Bush tax cuts. I guess you can say that from a fiscal standpoint, he's Bush except that he's focusing more spending on domestic agendas such as stimulus and unemployment insurance than spending it on ill conceived wars (one may argue libya is ill conceived but to be frank it's nowhere near Iraq).

Anywho ... little bit surprised at how dead this place got. No one is getting incensed about the debt cieling debate?

You got trancer-X banned? How exactly did you accomplish that? I mean I kinda figured it was only a matter of time given how ... extreme some of his positions were ... but all the same what was the tipping point?

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Jul-29-2011 16:00:

haha, speak his name 3 times and he appears! occrider = beetlejuice.

we've missed you!

I disagreed with most of his views, as well as his constant dick sucking of Mother Russia, but he did bring activity along with him.

That's because people like you have killed this forum. Instead of genuine discussions and debates we get trolls and idiots running the discussions into the ground. I realized after time that you were gaining some sort of personal satisfaction on these forums, reinforcing my point with your recent random appearance on a TOTA forum and a thread which I commented on and trying to mock me (without inputting anything to the discussion - so typical of you). Instead of you contributing to a discussion by making your point and then stepping aside and just letting it carry on with other TA's allowing their fair share of input, you keep harassing and annoying other folks I left PDD forum more than 2 years ago vowing not to post another topic here - I knew this current situation was gonna happen, and I just checked back here today for the first time in a while to see that it much worse ever since I left (no surprise that noone is here anymore). Kinda knew this was coming. All the great thinkers and political TA's have gone to other forums.

This forum lacked an effective mod to keep the peace and balanced discussion, prevent borderline bullying and personal attacks, and discouraged people from participating in discussions - overall it was a failure on ALL fronts.

I am glad I left! Since you guys never understood the point that I was trying to make. I am not pro-Putin, FYI. And look - since I left the PDD forum just died. Happy now?

Some of you guys are to blame for forcing the other guys to leave, and I refused to be part of new discussions because I thought it was ruining the forum. And it did. Congratulations, guys! Bye bye!

PKC is a smart guy who likes to poke fun at people. Deal with it. I'm 1 of 2 maybe 3 theists on this board, imagine how much shit I took!

Don't make me post the no more tears shampoo pic

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Jul-31-2011 03:29:

trancer-x said the same thing. "pkc ruined the PDD", lol. they have no realisation of the fact that the people who really made the PDD special, were never the ones that were mocked or scoffed at by myself or anyone else. the irony of course is that the quality of discourse here had gone way down hill largely due to paranoid dickheads like magnetonium. this place became a festering sore of conspiracy BS, hardly any real topics were discussed anymore. certainly none of the great minds were interested in the 100th 911 thread or similar.

This, which is why I always found it hilarious how people like Q5 always railed about him being "the most liberal member of the Senate."

I'm not even going to start about this BS debt ceiling debate. This country's gone off the rails lately with the Teabaggers. The number of these assholes that were voted in shows that we deserve the consequences of this stupidity. They're masters of not compromising and cutting their nose off to spite their faces. And there are large portions of this country that feel this is a way to govern. It's a representative government and they're representing their people...and for those beliefs, there are going to be consequences.

I see a lot of irony in your statement. You rarely if ever posted in the REAL discussions and one would ALWAYS find you in a 9-11/conspiracy related thread. And they always went on for pages thanks to your input. Hypocrisy? Every time a word "conspiracy" pops up in any TA discussion (like the one recently, hint hint), you're like a magnet - already there. At first I participated in some of those 9/11 discussions, but then I saw a pattern (hint hint) and stopped posting in 9/11 threads. Also, when it comes down to "real" serious political discussions ... well, you weren't there that much.

If all the "paranoid dickheads" like me and trancer-x left (oh and by the way - please do find a 9/11 thread that I STARTED, good luck with that!), then how come the smart special TA's didn't continue on contributing to interesting new topics and discussions?

I bet you don't even remember half the stuff that I posted anyway.

Its easy to blame shit on the "bad guys" who left the forum, isn't it?

Sorry, didn't want to take the credit ... I just noticed that the PDD forum started declining and after one awful discussion I made my ultimatum and left. I can foresee some things like that happening, experience in volatile markets and multiple jobs.

Yeah, you contributed to the forum, I remember you on couple discussions back in the day.

I posted in all the threads that interested me (if I has something to say). As time went on the only regular threads that were getting bumped were the nutter threads. So I posted in them. Somebody had to fight the good fight, considering most of the great posters were already gone. People should be mocked for holding stupid opinions. I see myself as a humble servant to the great god of mockery.

I count that as a win. I single-handedly improved your taste in topics. You’re welcome!

By the time you were regularly posting in the PDD those people were already leaving/gone. People move on. There is no great, single reason for that. certainly no single user responsible. People grew up, got responsibilities or families, no longer had the luxury to waste time on the internet etc.

Not at all. im not blaming anyone/thing. the only thing that I was pointing out was that once this place started to decline, most of the regular posters were only interested in an extremely narrow range of (nonsense) topics, which gave less and less reason for other people to return unless, like me, that stuff gave them enough of the shits to inspire them into posting.

Posted by Magnetonium on Aug-01-2011 23:50:

Fair enough. I am still interested in politics, but to be honest, and as you said, I don't have much time for it. I don't have a family, but I do have many other time-consuming hobbies (and jobs).

Many good and interesting discussions here on PDD back in the day.

These days the only place for good political discussions are on political forum websites, not a sub-forum of a music website.

Who knows, maybe I'll give some topics a bit of input. I just hope it doesn't turn out like last time ... and my local TOTA forum, there can be no good discussions there, people present their points like children or are just not serious (ridiculous comments).

I still find politics and world events interesting.
But this place ceased to be political discussion and simply moved to "Domestic US News". Which isn't the be all and end all of politics, just the most saturated coverage due to the density of media in that country.
