FAO: Meat187 Re: You won, para-para has just crushed my soul, I'm dazed and confused!

As the resident para-para enthusiast, can you please tell me why on Earth she's farting rainbows and vomiting eyeballs? I understand the words, but I can't grasp the transcedental meaning of what's supposed to be going on. Englighten us, I beg you!

I mean, if the word meaning can be used in this thread, I accidentally a whole afternoon with that!

Posted by Meat187 on Jul-27-2011 20:43:

It's rather easy, really. The eyes later revolve around her, watching. This is a political statement on the tendency for governments to increasingly control and observe their citizens. The fact that she vomited them just shows that people brought this trend on themselves, the are the sovereign and in control, yet nobody pays attention that their desire for security ends up in something disgusting, like vomiting eyeballs that watch you.
As for the rainbow fart, it's just a common stylistic device, meaining that beauty can be found in unexpected places.
For further explanations I refer you to the movie Funky Forest:

Would you then say that's a form of saccharine social criticism that aims at the total destruction of our prejudices? Much like Eboman's Super8 Dadaism?

Or, would you rather say it's just a naive portrait of our daily lives, like this short film:

How about shitting some good old 50 cal from the butt?

Precisely. It's aim is the deconstruction of modern society's values. Much like Nietzsche, when he asked for the appearance of the bermensch as a way for mankind to overcome itself and replace the old values with new ones, Para Para shows us the uselessness of our old values. It demonstrates that music from underage Japanese girls is just as valid as a source of happiness as owning an iPhone or having a great career. It makes you question the meaning of life and the prejudices you previously held. The video is comparable to Nietzsche's "God is dead" in that it tries to break with conventional thinking and wants to introduce a new moral and a new foundation for society which is founded on cheesy happiness and dancing.

Interesting. Well, you're the German one around here, so I'm taking your word for it. But it's funny because, given Nietzsche's infatuation with Graeco-Persian culture, I thought admirers would pay homage to him bollywood style:

Don't you reckon this would fit Zarathustra's philosophy better?

This most definitely responds to my bashfulness.

SNSD makes me feel so... weird. On the one hand, they're supposed to be a Glee-like innocent dance troupe with some of the most vocal members singing along. On the other hand, their outfits really makes me testosteronely confused. Anyhow, this thread needs more randomness, like giant apples and princesses wearing boxing gloves!

The actual MV is over 12 minutes long

Great song

There's just something about listening to cookie-cutter, mainstream top40 pop music in another language that makes it seem so much more acceptable to my ears.

Edit: Also, this...

That's true to everyone. I feel it's even more painful when it's in my mother language. For example...

I can listen to it and even enjoy the rio funkness while they're singing in English. The moment I recognise the words in Portuguese, however, it makes me wish I was temporarily deaf

Posted by Joss Weatherby on Oct-05-2011 17:13:

Possibly the best mash-up ever.

Posted by Lira on Oct-05-2011 19:55:

It... got... worse?!

May God have mercy upon the souls crushed by that video

Posted by Meat187 on Oct-05-2011 20:02:

What do you mean crushed? My soul eats videos like that for breakfast.
