WTF is going on with all this spam****??? Bas???

I understand that the west coast forum is a pretty popular but we gotta stop the spammers yo. Shit is getting annoying.

I don't mind people signing up and posting events (even misc info) but at least try and be a member of this "community".

Posted by fantasyexctasy on Jul-28-2011 20:55:

+1000000000000000000 This shit is starting to get out of hand. Hell I might even start spamming just for the hell of it lol

Do what a lot of people do.

Create an alternative account, post shit up, give your self props and bump the thread up yourself.

bump

I've noticed that with the west coast board for a while now. Where do you draw the line, though?? Who's to say "hey these events are cool to post but don't post those events?"

You can't really expect Bas to be the one, as he occasionally promotes events that aren't entirely in line with the average user base of west coast TA. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that - I think it's great, and he certainly doesn't abuse it.

Perhaps accounts that only create threads but never respond in them ought to be banned. That is, if an account posts an event and then somebody posts "hey i was wondering...etcetc" and the OP never bothers to get back to them it would indicate a spam account. How else could you really pick and choose?

Posted by dashdash on Jul-29-2011 02:10:

Can you imagine if several more people went on TA to promote their sites and used the same scumbag method? The spam will start spreading like an uncurable virus. We need to take this little outbreak monkey down now

Posted by 72hrpartyanimal on Jul-29-2011 02:34:

I'm all for people posting events. No problem. That's part of the attraction of this board. Hell, you can hide the events thread and get rid of all of it. Most of us on here know how to respect the forum hence why I don't complain. But what we've seeing recently is kind of obvious and just really annoying.

It's seems to have stopped a bit so I'm a bit happier. Maybe I was just super pissed off for being stuck in traffic on the way home (thanks Kaskade) and it carried over to today

edit* should we add a 2nd moderator???

Can we have events only appear in the events subforum?

you can hide events

upper right hand corner of forum.

Posted by Stassi on Jul-29-2011 18:43:

we had this problem in the NY forums. Eventually an event subforum was made and all event threads in the main forum would be deleted / moved.

Posted by Tosh on Jul-29-2011 19:08:

It's not a problem of events being posted is it?
That is what I come here for, not to see you all argue about which guys music taste is superior....

I don't like seeing threads and comments constantly popping up that are just trying to get website hits.

"Plur, I am so excited to go to the Less Than 3 website"

"Me too bro, It's the best website ever!"

"Ya, this event will be great, check out the less than 3 site to see their opinion of it!"

"Trance Family >>> U .... <3 Armin for life"

"We're very happy about the hundreds and hundreds of new visitors and fans from tranceaddict.com"

Find a REAL way to promote! Do something for the scene and the music you love, don't just spam a board to get someone to click a link, then think it means you have new fans

FYI, when the events feature was introduced in here it was agreed that a mix of having events listed (alongside other topics) was the way to go since most discussion was event focused anyways.

This can always be changed but imo I think it works as is and you can always 'hide' the events.

just ttt all of the plastic love events for him.
amirite or am i rite?

Posted by DaveT on Jul-29-2011 21:13:

No issue with a promoter coming in and putting a cluster of event threads. It's going to happen. But it will disperse once more discussion occurs.

It's the spamming by the ********* people that's irritating.

Posted by jonmitz on Jul-29-2011 21:44:

e

The threads I don't like are the people that clearly registered just to post it, and it's an obvious copy/paste that they are spamming all over

"hey check out my rad new EDM scene website that totally isnt a piece of shit! ok see ya!"

There have been A LOT in the past couple months. I mean, really, it doesnt matter in our day to day lives, but it is kinda annoyin' and I think it should be dealt with w/ a ban or something. The more you let people get away with it the more they may do it (trying to avoid a slippery slope here but you get the point)

e: i dont mind the event spams, at least those are useful

I post for my weekly event, so hopefully I am not annoying anyone too bad. The owners at the venue I work for put forth very little effort towards advertising, luckily it's still working out fine. I do see a lot of random posts though - and what drives me crazy is the sites that have "bulletin boards" and a promoter posts their bulletin about every 8 minutes for six straight days, totally ruining the entire board. I feel your frustration...

Your weekly posts are fine. They are talking about threads like this:

http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...7&forumid=60&s=

And various spam PMs like the following that was sent to me a few times:

"I was looking through the forums and I noticed that you attend events in LA, thats legit!

I have a startup that is going to be coming out soon that is going to be a directory of user submitted events for Los Angeles (and other cities later) and I would love if you could be a part of it.

When the site launches, if you have events of your own, you could definitely add them.

Let me know what you think, and feel free to sign up if your interested in Beta Testing."

By the what?

Guys, I don't have time to read every event thread here. If you see something like that Armin thread PM me and I'll take care of it. However, we're probably not going to stop what you guys call "spam" accounts from posting their events here just because they don't contribute anything else to the forum. In addition to music discussion, the local forum is place for promoters (any promoter) to advertise their event. Let's be honest, if I had my way half the crap that gets promoted here would be deleted...but alas

Suckas.

PLEASE let me or one of the mods know if people are spamming you via PM.

I just suspended the user + deleted over 300+ private messages that were sent out by the person who sent the msg above. People really have no shame these days...
