help me decide what speakers to buy!

ok, i have a gemini XPB-1600 amp and here are its specs:
single ch driven @ 8ohms: 340w
both ch's driven @ 8ohms: 300
single ch driven @ 4ohms: 600
both ch's driven @ 4ohms: 500
single ch driven @ 2ohms: 950
both ch's driven @ 2ohms: 800
mono bridge @ 8ohms: 1000
mono bridge @ 4ohms: 1600

so anyhow, i'm looking at 2 speakers, i know that this amp could totally push more power than the speakers can handle, but when i originally got the amp i was planning on driving dual 15" speakers, but i ended up in another apt instead of a house so i can't really get that big speakers.. anyways, i can always add more speakers to this system later if need be.. so here are my two choices:

Gemini GSS-1522 (160w RMS - 320w peak @ 8ohms, freq repsonse: 32Hz~20kHz) price: $148.95 each


or

Gemini GSM-1550 (160w RMS - 320w peak @ 8ohms, freq response: 32Hz~20kHz) price: $104.95 each



ok, so i got listed info (except for my amp which came from the manual) from pssl.com, however the site i plan to order the speakers from (www.topdjgear.com) says that the gss1522 (speaker w/ the scoop) can push 550w and the gsm1550 can push 320 which is basically what i can tell from every other site. on the gemini website (www.geminidj.com), the manuals don't work for the speakers, but in their small descriptions, the gss1522 says 350w and the gsm1550 says 320w, so either way, if i put my amp at 8ohms, it should be fine w/ either speaker, the plus that i see w/ the 1522 is that w/ the scoop, the bass is kinda directed away from the tweeters and bass shouldn't drown the high's out as much, however, this is such a cheap pair of speakers i don't know if that will matter too much and so then im basically deciding if buying the pair w/ scoops will be worth spending an additional $50 on each speaker.. so your opinions?

Well, I just bought two ProLinear speakers from A & B sounds for 150 bucks (Saved 75 bux!). They are bookshelf speakers, and have an output of 150 watts. They are kickin speakers, even though they weren't that expensive.

Do you have a link? I wanna check them out. Right now, I am considering a decent pair of self powered studio monitor speakers. I like the Yamaha MSP5, M-audio SPB5, Event 20/20 bas. Can anyone give me more information about this. You may think that this is a total waste of money and I should be buying records instead. However, on my current Sony floorstanding speakers, the low-end seems very muddy and its not helping me mix cleanly. For example, When I mix loudly, the beats sound perfectly in sync. But, when I listen to the recording on my MD, i can hear that they are often a hair off. So, anyone with knowledge about studio monitors, please help me out. thanks.

A & B Sound is Western Canada only dude. At least that what is says on the website. I couldn't find a link the website.

Anyway, to answer your question, I would say either one is going to do just fine, esp. if you're in an apartment complex. I would go ahead and get the one that is cheaper since the specs seem to be the same. That's just my personal opinion, but in this case...I think that's what it'sgoing to boil down to...personal opinions.

well, let me give you a hand here...

the 1522 definitely have that LOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWW boomy bass some people love... the thing is that is hitting straight at the floor and it is going to sound so BOOOOOOOOMMMMYYYY that everything is going to shake with such an amp.

if you're using them for monitoring though, go for the 1550. i don't think that it's going to drown the high's at all. it's horns not tweeters, remember? those are VERY powerful highs... what it is going to drown is just the mids.

the thing is: the 1522 are not as fine for mixing cause you can't listen to the bass clearly. you will mostly feel it. in 1550 though it is going to be more clear, but not as shakey as the 1522.

it's your choice: 1522 will SHAKE the place. 1550 have better and more CLEAR sounding bass though, good for beatmatching more correctly.

thanks to the both of you! that basically made my decision, i kinda figured i'd go w/ the 1550 because the specs are virtually the same, and i don't see what would make the 1522 worth spending 50 bux more on each speaker, true i do live in an apt so the sound i was thinking might not be good for the downstairs neighbors, however my crew will probably also be using these speakers at the smaller parties and cafe's that we need to setup our own stuff at.. but mostly it is for my use.. the point w/ the bass is a good one, first off, although bass is always good for loud thumping parties, my main concern is that these will also be my monitoring speakers, currently im just running through my stereo which is fine, but i've had this amp for about 4 months now and i finally want to use it. i'd really just want monitor speakers but those wouldn't be good for performing.. anyhow, thanks for the advice. i'll let you guys know how the 1550's sound when i get them..
