Searching for a word

I'm not even sure a precise word for this exists, but I'm looking for a term labeling the kind of person who specializes in a really narrow domain of knowledge, to the point of being ignorant and dismissive about things outside their field.

Can anyone think of a word that fits the bill?

Already thought of it, and that's probably the closest anyone has said. I was thinking there was a more pejorative term, though.

Idiot savant.

There is, but I can't remember it, either.

Fachidiot.

Maybe also wonk: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/wonk

Nah. I'm thinking of people who aren't necessarily of low ability in other areas, they just dismiss them / don't care about them.

Fachidiot seems exactly right, but I'm pretty sure the word I was looking for is English, not German.

Wonk is pretty good, but not quite it.

I think I'm looking for something that has a connotation somewhere between "wonk" and "philistine."

Blinkered specialist maybe. But it's more a description than a word.
