Paul van Dyk & BT Essential Mixes (1997)
Thought I'd upload this one because I had a bit of trouble finding it on Google, which is quite strange for such a big artist. This era was probably the peak of PVD's productions for me, but I've never heard a DJ mix from him from the mid-90s until this one. This flavour of energetic progressive trance is probably my all-time favourite era for trance, and there are also a few great prog breaks moments here and there.
Paul van Dyk - Essential Mix (20-04-1997)

11. [065:13] Sian - Stronger Together [Andy Ling's Aryan Dub]
12. [073:13] Tilt - My Spirit [Pink Bomb Remix]
13. [081:27] Millenium - Radio Freedom [Interference Mix]

18. [112:59] Yello - On Track [Doug Laurent's First Journey Dub]

I've also seen versions of the tracklist that say he opens with Innersphere - Out Of Body, but I haven't investigated yet.

EDIT: Title changed to reflect the subsequent BT-hype.
Nice! Thanks
This is an absolutely stunning mix. I remember having 90 minutes of it on tape somewhere and have fond memories of listening to this when I used to cycle home from work at 2am in the morning.
It saddens me to see how the mighty have indeed fallen.
Looking forward to hearing this again. Thanks for uploading
The BBG and Yello tracks are particularly awesome!
In an unrelated contrast, listening to this calibre of music and riding on a bike at 2am in the morning are just two of the things that are now virtually redundant due to:
The abundance of shit music, Celebrity DJ egos and intoxicated hoodlums with a craving for theft.
epic tracklist, thanks!
Had this loaded up on torrents for months but never thought about getting it until a few weeks ago.
Will have to give it another listen now

This PVD Essential Mix is a lot like Seven Ways - a no-nonsense pumping trance session start to finish, where BT's is a real mix-up of genres, just like ESCM. Funny thing is, I prefer PVD's album but I think I prefer BT's EM:
The BT Essential Mix (21-09-1997):

4) System 7 - "Alpine Wave" (Butterfly)
5) B.T. - "Remember [Mood II Swing Mix]" (Perfecto)
6) B.T. - "Remember [Mood II Swing Dub]" (Perfecto)
7) J Auger - "Atom Funk" (KTF)
8) J Auger/G Berroyer - "Champagne" (KTF)

10) 2 Phat ****s - Ride [The Space Invaders Mix] (Yoshitoshi)
11) Slacker - "Scared [Of Tomorrow]" (XL)
12) B.T. - "Love Peace & Grease [Fila Puma Mix]" (Perfecto)

A lot of the same tracks too. But why does he play Flaming June and Forbidden Fruit twice? And what is the "Forbidden City remix" of Forbidden Fruit? Is that possibly a mislabel of his remix of Curve - Chinese Burn?
Thanks for sharing these mixes. That BT essential mix is definitely one of my top live sets of all time. BT is also one of my favorite artists of all time (although I've been largely ignoring his newer stuff -- is that a mistake?)
BTW does anyone have any idea where I can find the first track from his EM, the supposed XS - Day Dream Believe [DAT]. Sickest f**cking track and I could never find anything on it
[quick thought] also, the unknown ID track is equally sick; the vocals something about "carrying the dead?" Most likely a mash-up. God I wish these bits of glory would be released into the world
-BK
This Binary Universe was incredible. Just about everything else he's made in the last 10 years has been awful. That's pretty much all you need to know.
I've never found any info on that XS track either. I presume it's the same XS who was on Yoshitoshi, because BT had ties to that label. XS was a Jean-Phillippe Aviance alias, but all of Aviance's aliases just made deep/funky house. The tracklist says "DAT" for label, which basically means it was played off a tape. Perhaps it was an experimental Aviance track that never released, or perhaps it's just a total mislabel. Took me a long time to find the intro track to BT's 1995 EM, which is labelled as Ryuichi Sakamoto on most tracklists. Turns it was by Japanese artist Kintaro. Only found that out today.
I'll be scooping all these great sets up, thanks fellas.
Listening to PVD and BT from that era reminds me how their styles really complimented each other; too bad they didn't have more collaborations.
Liked the PVD's Blauer Himmel and Erinnern Indigo mixes of BT's Blue Skies.
EDIT: sorry to spam this thread but here those two tracks are for the newbies unfamiliar with old PVD stuff.
Thanks System J. Yeah, I kinda wrote BT off after emotional technology, and didnt really like anything I sampled afterward. I will check out Binary Universe. Also I'll dig a bit on the Day Dream Believe track... I swear to god it seems like the best stuff is always unreleased or unidentified.

Great share system.
Very true, the "grass is greener" effect does play a part... once you get that one track after years of searching, it's never quite as good as when you used to loop it over and over from that one old set.
Sigh, life =D

Junior Camp - Listen To The Rhythm is bananas.
